🎉🐾 Introducing Rufio – the giant wirehaired beast who could easily double as both your dog AND your personal bodyguard. 🐾🎉

We named him Rufio after the movie Hook because:
1️⃣ He’s larger than life.
2️⃣ He’s a little wild.
3️⃣ He’s definitely the type to yell “RU-FI-OOOOOO!” while charging across the yard.

Rufio is basically a mix between a lion, a s**g carpet, and your best friend. He’s got enough fur to knit an entire sweater collection, and enough love to smother you forever (literally — he might try to sit in your lap).

This big, goofy legend has been crashing at the shelter, but he’s ready to trade in his kennel for a couch, a yard, and maybe a pirate ship. 🏴‍☠️

Come meet him before Peter Pan shows up and steals him first. 😉

🐾 From Fragile to Fabulous 🐾

When two tiny puppies from a litter began struggling to survive, our Animal Control Officer and RVT stepped in without hesitation. These little ones were failure-to-thrive cases. Weak, underweight, and in desperate need of round-the-clock care. 💔

With gentle hands, late night feedings, and plenty of love, our officer gave them the fighting chance they deserved. Day by day, they grew stronger… and stronger… until those once tired tails started wagging nonstop. 🐶💖

Today, they’re living their best lives in a loving forever home, chasing toys, snuggling on the couch, and proving that compassion changes everything.

This is why Animal Control matters. It’s not just about rescuing animals in danger, it’s about giving every life a chance to thrive. 🐾💓

📸 Because who doesn’t need a happy puppy update in their feed today?

Update: TADPOLE HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!
🐾 Meet Tadpole — the dog, not the amphibian. 🐾

Tadpole is a full-sized, tail-wagging, belly-rub-loving canine who’s been working hard to master the art of looking like the world’s most adoptable dog… and honestly? He’s nailed it.
✔ House-trained (unlike the real tadpoles you had as a kid).
✔ Loves walks, snacks, and being told he’s a “good boy” — preferably all at once.
✔ Can’t jump like a frog, but will leap into your heart. 💖

Right now, Tadpole is hanging out at Tuolumne County Animal Control, plotting his big escape into a forever home. If you’re looking for a loyal best friend who won’t leave wet footprints on your table, Tadpole’s your guy.
📅 Come meet him today — because the only thing he’s “waiting to grow into” is your couch.

A compassionate citizen discovered a severely injured puppy and promptly brought her to our shelter. During the examination, we observed that the puppy’s pupils were dilated and she exhibited significant lethargy. Dr. Grace Bloom assessed her condition and diagnosed a head injury. Subsequent X-rays confirmed the presence of fractures in her skull. After administering pain relief, we transferred her to Sierra Veterinary Care Hospital for critical care with their amazing team. We are pleased to announce that she has fully recovered and is thriving in her new home. The swift response of our team, along with the expertise of the veterinarians and technicians, played a crucial role in saving her life.

☀️As temperatures continue to rise, the heat of summer is expected to intensify, prompting many to engage in outdoor activities with their pets. However, the increasing desire to include pets in these outings has led to a concerning trend: many individuals irresponsibly leave their animals confined in vehicles.

According to Penal Code 597.7, it is illegal to leave an animal unattended in a motor vehicle under conditions that could jeopardize its health and safety. Inside a parked car, temperatures can soar 20 to 25 degrees higher than the outside temperature, creating a perilous environment for pets, particularly dogs, whose physiological makeup makes it difficult for them to cool down. This negligence can result in heat stroke, which is often fatal.

While Tuolumne County Animal Control encourages pet owners to engage in activities that promote exercise and socialization for their dogs, it is crucial to ensure their safety by never leaving them in vehicles. If you encounter an animal trapped in a hot car, it is essential to contact law enforcement for assistance.

🎆Tuolumne County Animal Control would like to issue a reminder to pet owners to take necessary precautions to ensure their pets’ safety during the holiday. 🎇

The animal control facility experiences its highest volume of activity following the 4th of July, primarily due to the large number of animals that become frightened and disoriented by the fireworks. Despite the prohibition on fireworks in Tuolumne County, some individuals continue to ignite them. Fireworks, picnics, and other Fourth of July traditions can be enjoyable for humans, but these celebrations can be intimidating and hazardous for animals. The noise and commotion associated with fireworks and other celebrations can startle animals, causing them to flee; holiday foods can be detrimental to their health; the summer heat and travel can pose significant risks; and hazardous debris may be scattered on the ground, posing a threat to pets.

Regardless of whether you are hosting your own Independence Day celebration, it is essential to take proactive measures to safeguard your pets during and after the festivities.

Your friends at animal control wish you all a safe, and happy Independence Day!
