Horse of the Month: Ranger is a 16 year old Quarter Horse that arrived at Thunder Road Stables last month from the Warrior Ranch Foundation in Calverton. Ranger was taken in by Warrior Ranch as a rescue and spent 4 years providing equine therapy to veterans and first responders with Post Traumatic Stress. Known for his beauty and antics (he picks everything he can with his mouth and tosses it), he quickly became a ranch favorite. At Warrior Ranch, the goal is to re-train, re-purpose and rehome each rescue in their care to make room to help other horses in need. All horses on the ranch are adoptable after they are declared safe to go to forever homes. Ranger, deemed unrideable due to a spinal issue, was predicted to be hard to adopt out due to his limitations. Enter Lucky into the story, his now pasture mate here at Thunder Road Stables. Over the years, Lucky has made “guest appearances” at Warrior Ranch for large retreats that may need an extra horse or two. Durning these events, Lucky and Ranger became familiar and friendly with each other. Lucky, in need of a paddock mate of similar temperate back here at home, happily welcomed Ranger to be his new brother and playmate at his forever home of Thunder Road Stables. It was a win for both horses! To learn more about Warrior Ranch Foundation and the remarkable work they do, visit www.warriorranchfoundation.org
