Update- Milo has been found and is safe at home

🚨 MISSING DOG – PLEASE HELP US FIND MILO 🐾

The Piedmont Police Department is asking for the community’s help locating Milo, a male Shorkie who has gone missing from his home in the Dailey Street area.

Milo has a loving family who is very worried about him and wants to get him home safely.

Please take a look at his picture and keep an eye out. If you see Milo, know where he may be, or have picked him up for safekeeping, please contact the Piedmont Police Department at 256-447-9091.

EXTREME HEAT ALERT

Calhoun EMA: Calhoun County is under an Extreme Heat Warning from 9 PM Sunday, Aug 16th through 9 PM Monday, Aug 17th. Precautionary/Preparedness Actions:Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stoke. The heat is here and it looks like it’ll be with us for a while. Please bring them inside if you can. If you’re unable to that then sure there’s plenty of fresh water and lots of shade for them

Wildlife followup: Please be aware that the black bear is still in the area and has been spotted in town, including near the downtown district.

So far the animal hasn't caused issues, has kept to itself and is moving on. We will continue to monitor the situation and take action as necessary, but our wildlife experts have advised us that the bear's natural instinct will be to head out of town. For now, bring inside pets and pet food, and don't approach the bear or try to feed it. Do not attempt to engage the animal or harm it.

Please be sure to keep dispatch lines open for emergencies; we appreciate the reports but want to be ready to serve if an emergency arises.

Keeps your eyes open if you’re walking,biking or running on the trail.

Everyone loves the Chief Ladiga Trail, especially this black bear who wandered onto the trail today.

We have our animal control and patrol units looking for it and ensuring the trail is clear. In the meantime, be watchful on the trail and give any wild animal plenty of space if you encounter one.
