We have some BIG NEWS!
The RICK BRAGG SIGN HaS BEEN ORDERED!
A collaboration between Jacksonville State University, the non-profit Great Things In Jacksonville and the city of Jacksonville is bringing a new historic marker to the Jacksonville Public Library to honor Pulitzer Prize-winning author Rick Bragg.
The project reflects ongoing commitment by all three partners to community engagement and highlights efforts to preserve Jacksonville’s literary and cultural heritage. Under the guidance of faculty member Wesley Bishop, students in Jax State’s Department of History and Foreign Languages researched and wrote the marker’s text. Their work documents Bragg’s impact as a significant figure in the community’s history.
“This project represents the best of what can happen when the university, a nonprofit and the city work together,” said Torsten Dryden, GTIJ president. “Students, faculty, GTIJ and the city all played major roles in shaping this marker. We are proud to help bring this collaborative teamwork to the community. Thank you to all those who donated to make this project possible."
Bragg has authored All Over But The Shoutin’, Ava’s Man, My Southern Journey, The Best Cook in the World, The Speckled Beauty: A Dog and His People and Somebody Told Me, The Prince of Frogtown, The Most They Ever Had, Jerry Lee Lewis: His Own Story and I’m a Soldier Too: The Jessica Lynch Story and other publications, including a column in Southern Living magazine.
The marker will be installed at the Jacksonville Public Library, and a public dedication ceremony is planned for Fall of 2026.
Thank you Mr. Bragg for your great Southern works!
