Peanut may have an on/off switch but when she arrives at Community Entry Services Jackson, WY she’s FULL CHARGE. She bounds up the stairs to get her friends moving and start the day. And when it’s time to slow down? That full charge therapy dog becomes an instant lap dog. If a walk gets rained out, she’s perfectly content to settle in for a good book instead.

Whether she’s motivating someone to get moving, bringing a little comfort during a hospital visit, or reminding someone of the furry friend waiting for them at home, Peanut has a pretty important job. And she takes is seriously…especially when treats are involved.

A big paws up for our newest Teton County Pet Partners teams!

Please join us in welcoming Abby Edwards & Hank, Dave Croson, Poppy & Maise, David JR Dalby & Clinton, and Kevin & Twig, who have all officially completed their Pet Partners registration and are ready to begin sharing comfort, connection, and plenty of tail wags throughout Teton County.

We're so excited to see these teams out in our community and watch the impact they'll make, one visit at a time.

Meet Peanut: Motivation Specialist

Q: What inspired you both to become a therapy team?
I’m my handler Becky’s third therapy dog with Teton County Pet Partners, so she’s basically a professional at this point! She's seen the magic that happens when someone walks into a room feeling anxious and relaxes the moment they see a dog. We love sharing unconditional love and a little motivation with the people we visit. Although, I suspect she'd tell you I'm heavily treat motivated!

Q: What does a typical visit to CES look like?
I go FULL CHARGE up the stairs and encourage my friends to get up and walk with me. Sometimes it takes a little motivation to get moving, but there’s a HUGE difference when we get back: more smiles and more excitement!
I do have an on/off switch. One minute I’m bounding up the stairs ready to get everyone moving, and the next I’m an instant lap dog. If the weather isn’t cooperating, I’m perfectly happy to curl up and read a good book together instead.

Q: What’s your favorite part of the visit?
Seeing people get excited to walk with me! I love giving my friends a reason to get up and get moving, and I’m usually ready to go before we even make it to the door!

Q: Is there a visit that’s stayed with you?
I spend a lot of time visiting the hospital, especially Oncology. Some of my friends have pets waiting for them at home and sitting on their lap during a tough time gives them a connection to the furry friend they’re missing. One of my friends traveled a long way for her oncology appointments and loved having me there so we worked with the receptionist to arrange visits during her treatments.

Sometimes a visit is a walk, sometimes it’s reading a book, and sometimes it’s simply sitting beside someone who could use a little comfort.

Saturdays are for the Jackson Hole Farmers Market on the Town Square! 🌻

Start your weekend off right with a stroll through Town Square. Pick up local produce, treats, handcrafted goods, and enjoy the community that makes Saturdays here so special.

This week's featured nonprofit is the Skating Club of Jackson Hole! Stop by their booth to learn more about how they make ice skating accessible and enjoyable for all ages and abilities. They create a safe and encouraging place for skaters to build confidence and stay engaged, from learning the basics to developing competitive skills.

Zydeco has come a long way!

Rescued from a breeding and hoarding situation, he spent the first year and a half of his life living in a cage having never seen grass. Now, he has a very different life and a very important job: bringing comfort to people who need it most!

When he pulls up to St. John's Health, he knows he has a full roster that day. Patients, families, and staff are waiting for a visit, and Zydeco is more than happy to oblige with his favorite combination: leaning, snuggling, and politely inquiring about treats.

Some visits are full of conversation, some are a quiet moment together, and some turn into memories that stick around long after Zydeco leaves. That’s what makes his job so special.

Ready to share the love of your furry friend with those who need it most? If you're considering becoming a Pet Partners team with your pet, the In-Person Handler Course is the perfect first step!

Hosted by our local instructor Dr. Elizabeth Lynch, the course will prepare you for the rewarding experience of therapy animal work. You'll learn everything needed to become a confident and successful handler, from visit best practices to evaluation preparation.

Meet Zydeco: Treat Connoisseur

Q: What’s something people might not realize about being a therapy team?
There’s a lot more to it than showing up with a wagging tail! My handler and I completed online courses, obedience training, and a final practical exam before we could get to the good stuff! I spent the first year and a half of my life in a cage and hadn’t even seen grass before my best friend Elaine rescued me. So I quickly adapted to the therapy team life (especially once I found out about treats but more about them later).

Q: What’s one of your favorite things about visiting St. John's Health (and Sage Living)?
I get to meet all kinds of people and they’re always really excited to see me! I visit Oncology, the ICU, the Emergency Department, and the PCU. My job is mostly to lean in and let people give me all the pets they need. The hospital staff likes my visits too, and sometimes they give me treats (!!!) which I think is very good judgement on their part and they should continue doing that.

Q: Is there a visit that’s stayed with you?
One of my friends got down on the floor with me once and we hugged for a really long time. It was probably one of the best hugs of my life. Another time, I met a couple at the hospital who already knew my name! Their son had met me at the library the night before and went home telling them all about me.

The best part of being a therapy team? Knowing that a few minutes together can leave both people and dogs a little happier than we found them. Some dogs bring the energy, Quinn brings her whole heart!

She knows exactly what it means when she arrives at C-V Ranch, and she lets everyone know how excited she is to see her friends. Whether she’s greeting one kid or a whole group, Quinn has plenty of love to go around.
