Tis the season and this is our Christmas miracle. I want you to look at the pictures in the order they are laid out. They represent the journey of a very senior cat. Rory was a resident at ARF for 4711 days. That is over 13 years. She came in as a young adult cat. She wasn't a really friendly kitty, more of a live and let live gal. So, she was overlooked by adopters many times. ARF is a shelter but we are also a sanctuary. A place for the ones that are old, sick, scared, not cute and snuggly. The less adoptable. Cats and dogs like Rory usually live their lives out in the shelter. And while there is nothing wrong with that, we so want them to experience love and a home of their own. Well one day we had a very nice lady come and volunteer. She loves cats and helped out in the cattery. She met many of our babies and fell in love with them all. She especially has a soft spot for the sick and overlooked. She has adopted several of our cats. Rory was a kitty she had been trying to win over. When Rory had a sudden illness the vets thought she only had a short time left. Our wonderful volunteer, Cynthia Grice, decided if she was going to pass it would be in a home. After 4711 days Rory has a family of her own. Cynthia immediately took her to her vet and the diagnosis was not good. Old age was taking it's toll on Rory. But Cynthia wasn't ready to just give up. She faithfully took Rory to the vet for tests and medicines. And slowly, so slowly, Rory started to improve! As of today she is only dealing with a thyroid issue. Her latest lab work is great! Rory has also blossomed into a love bug. She is Cynthia's little old lady kitty. This did not happen overnight. It took a few months of love and patience. Cynthia texted me today with the last photo and to tell me her vet visit was great today. Since it is December, I call this our Christmas miracle. Cynthia wanted me to tell you to please give the old and shy pets a chance. We have so many that have been here for most of their lives. They deserve a chance at a family and home. Or if you can't adopt consider a donation. The only reason we are able to be a sanctuary for pets like Rory is because of all of you that support ARF. We have so many things we hope to achieve in 2026 please be a part of our growth.
