Animal Rescue Fund of MS (ARF)

Animal Rescue Fund of MS (ARF) Mississippi's largest no-kill rescue organization. Open seven days a week, but due to staffing an appointment is required. What can you do?

At ARF of MS our rescued pets stay as long as they need to in order to find a forever home. During their stay we look to serving the whole animal with attention to their comprehensive care and medical needs as well as social skills building. The shelter is typically home to over 75 cats and 300 dogs at any given time. We provide the residents a safe and happy environment while they await adoption

. Dogs are exercised regularly and volunteers spend time with them at play in the exercise yards while cats enjoy large whimsical “free –roaming” rooms with habitat to encourage exercise and exploration. All are given loving care and attention by staff and volunteers. Once rehabilitated and ready, they are carefully matched with prospective adopters and placed in loving homes. Like people, animals have distinct personalities and patterns, we at ARF of MS work to perfectly match the right animal with the family, ensuring a long lasting relationship. Adopt from us when you’re looking for a new pet and support our no-kill model with a donation today.

We will be at Hollywood Feed in Flowood Sunday, June 7th, from 11 to 2. Come see us and some of our adoptable kitties!

When a mother duck kept following preschool director Lisa Plassman around during school pickup in Illinois, she quickly realized the bird wasn't looking for food. She was asking for help.

Following the duck to a nearby storm drain, Plassman heard faint chirping and discovered 12 ducklings trapped nearly a dozen feet below the street. With emergency responders delayed, Plassman and several teachers decided they couldn't wait.

The educators lifted the heavy drain cover, and Plassman climbed down into the drain with a bucket to rescue the stranded babies. One by one, she gathered all 12 ducklings and carried them safely back to the surface.

The team then reunited the ducklings with their anxious mother in a nearby grassy yard. As the babies rushed back to her side, more than a few teachers were left wiping away tears.

After the successful rescue, the school arranged for a protective mesh cover to be installed over the drain to help prevent future ducklings from falling in.

Well, it seems that our local boomarang thief has not much to do besides wreck havoc on us. He came back, this time at 5:42 a.m.. Because it is daylight and because he now appears to not give a fiddles fart, his face is not covered in a fishing hat, so we are able to get a clearer look at his face.
We are going to provide yet ANOTHER flash drive to JPD with the instructions to look for a guy with wasp stings.
One of the times before, he stole our yard equipment, including our wasp spray. This time he came to take our brand new, out of the box air conditioner and he attempted to take the older window unit on the other end of the trailer that our employees break in, eat in and where we keep the coffee pot, fridges and all things associated with serving food, (tables, plates, flatware...) Well, the old unit had a wasp nest in it, a big on. He got it out of the metal cage to steal it, but apparently he found the wasp nest, because he didn't take it, but he killed the coffee pot in the transaction.
When our previous events happened, JPD appeared to be wanting to help us with these break ins. We have given them video footage, a name that the neighborhood says who he is, they got a trace on his cell phone, they got DNA evidence, they got fingerprints... We know this guy is already in the system. Tell me why JPD is not picking up this fella who is causing us so much loss? It is bad enough that the City doesn't have a functioning Animal Control, and all us rescues are doing the work of the City, yet their staff are still getting paid with full benefits. But, besides doing the City's work, we are plagued with recurring theft and nothing is done about it.
Our losses THIS time, are not as deep as they were the previous 3 times, he only made off with the brand new window unit that one of our supporters was kind enough to provide us. It is only a matter of time before he gets into the main building where the animals are housed and if he harms even one of our animals, I may end up in jail.
The photo in this post is not good quality, but the security company is going to clean up our video and zoom in on the recorded activity and we will have a more clear look at his face.

Costco members! Costco in Ridgeland has these Pet Cots for $23.39 or $26.55 if you order through https://sameday.costco.com. Some of our dogs are not chewers and would really appreciate one. We are securing the legs/arms with glue, which will help them last longer as they get moved around during cleanup. We have a Ridgeland drop-off location or if you get quite a few, we’d pick up. Email to schedule either or if you order through the same-day link, you can have them delivered to 395 West Mayes, Jackson ,MS 39213 . [email protected]

I want to clear up some misinformation that is circulating.
Over the years we at ARF have experienced break ins and robberies.
But, the difference now is that the police are actually doing something. They are sending detectives, investigators, patrols, gathering information like dna and fingerprints. One time a few years ago, we had a robbery and when we asked that they take fingerprints or DNA (there was blood everywhere and fingerprints with blood everywhere and all sorts of other things that had fingerprints), the police laughed at us and said "This isn't CSI", and a detective laughed at us and said "well, it's just dogs and cats" No regard to it being a legit business and that it is a well respected charity and business. THIS TIME they did all that. This police department is responsive, is taking it seriously.
Our new mayor and our new police chief and all involved have been professional, concerned and have followed through with the process. They have good information and are working on the situation. The criminal, I am fairly sure is the same one who hit us in the past, and is a street person who was in the area, left and is now back.
We are not going to ask for our volunteers to be vigilante fighters and risk their safety for this. We are working to repair the damages as donations come in. We could file an insurance claim, but our deductible is high, and our last insurance cancelled on us due to previous claims from burglars. We are trying to avoid that. We will if we must, but we sure don't need to lose our insurance coverage right now.
ADDITIONALLY! please be careful of who you donate towards. If an organization is a 501c3, you can look up their 990 tax returns and see where they spend their money. In today's economy, our dollars are hard to come by. If you donate to an independent rescuer, check them out. There are good ones and bad ones. It takes A LOT of work to be a 501c3, with CPA's and paperwork on money in and out. This is important to protect the public. There is currently a bad one who is slandering us on this recent activity, this independent rescuer has had multiple bankruptcies. While the option for a bankruptcy is needed and I am in no way discrediting this, but if you are donating to someone who can not manage their own funds and file MANY TIMES for bankruptcy, I would think twice about giving them your hard earned dollars, because you have no way to know where your money goes.

Well boys and girls, our persistent thief came back last night.
Last night, he broke down our fence to make his access and egress easier, so we have a fence to purchase. He stole the window unit we recently purchased for the trailer where our inmates eat lunch and where we keep food and coffee items. So now we have a big ole gaping hole in the trailer, he broke the door to get into the trailer again, he broke the security connections to the trailer, he stole the icecream we buy for our inmates to have a cool sweet snack on hot afternoons, He stole dog crates that we use to take the animals to MSU for spay neuter days (which we have an appointment to take to them next week), and then, he dug a hole down 4 feet deep on one of our new light poles to steal the copper for the light. And used our shovel to do it.
The police have come by each time to take reports, they took items he left behind with his finger prints on it and they took the flash drives with the video of him doing the thefts.
We have Entergy coming back to repair the pole he damages, they are going to put up more lights and we have our security company coming to see how they can beef up our security system more.
All these things are detrimental to us financially and emotionally . We are angry, hurt and feel defeated.
The City of Jackson is currently without a functioning Animal Control branch, it has been that way since 2020. So, we rescues have been carrying the burden of trying to help all the homeless, abandoned, abused, neglected, sick and injured dogs and cats of our community. That in and of itself is hard and expensive. But, to add the multiple break ins, theft and damages on top of it is more than we should have to carry.
With the current situation of the economy, inflation, food prices, gas prices and everything else, donations are down considerably. People are trying to get by, and having a little extra to donate to a charity is not what many can do right now. But, if you can, please see if you can find it in your heart to donate to us. We are on our knees at this point. Donations can be made to this post by clicking the blue donate button, paypal - [email protected] or USPS ARF of MS 395 West Mayes Street Jackson MS 39213. Thank you

Happy National Rescue Dog Day! Meet Lexington, a neutered Great Dane mix! He is a gentle giant with a soft heart and a handsome grey coat. He loves getting outside to stretch those long legs for walks and playtime, and the best part? He’s easy to walk. No chaos, no drama - just a tall, happy companion happily strolling by your side. He’s also a smart cookie. Lexington is intelligent, attentive, and highly motivated by treats (especially the good stuff!). Lexington has been in a foster home, so we know he truly shines when he’s with his humans. He bonds deeply and has that soulful, loving presence that big dogs are famous for. The kind that leans into you. The kind that makes you feel chosen. He would do best in a home that can: Appreciate a large-breed companion; Continue giving him structure and guidance; Provide thoughtful introductions to other dogs. Lexington has shown some dog selectivity in the past, so slow, proper introductions are important. With the right setup and leadership, he can absolutely thrive.

Well, it is Tuesday, what does that mean boys and girls? It means the lowdowngoodfornothing thieves have hit ARF again.
This time, they got our lawn equipment. A Ryobi large lawnmower, Ryobi Weedeater, Ryobi large batteries and the charger.
I swear we can't win for losing. We have filed a police report and are gathering footage from our cameras for the police. If anyone has a connection to Ryobi, ask them if they want to help a poor little charity with their equipment.

Good afternoon friends.
We had an incident last night at the shelter, some no good for nothing broke into our property and stole a large amount of medicines, vaccines, cleaning products, Nextguard Plus for dogs and cats and other things. We have filed a police report and are gathering up camera footage to provide the police.
It is the lowest of the low to steal from a charity, especially a charity that struggles from day to day.
We will be checking with our insurance on filing a claim, but that takes a minute to receive and we simply do not have the funds to replace at present. We are still digging out from under the financial straights we posted about last week.
I understand that everyone is struggling financially right now with inflation, soaring gas prices and everything else, so I hate to ask, but if you are able, please consider making a tax deductible donation to ARF to help us replace what we can while we get through this process.
The value of everything stolen is still being tallied, but is somewhere between $15,000 and $18,000.
Donations can be made by clicking the blue donate button or through paypal at [email protected], or through the USPS to ARF 395 West Mayes Street Jackson MS 39213.
Thank you everyone for all your support, shares and cares.

Building insurance: $2,300. Due now. Entergy: $2600. Due now. Water bill: $1,300. Due now. Republic Services: $600. Due now. Vet bills: $10,000 give or take, Due now.
Donations and bank account today: $500.
People promise to donate when they beg for us to help rescue animals in need, injured and sick. People promise to donate when they receive a little extra unexpected income. People beg us to do more, but we do as much as we can. We can not do this on promises alone. We need help. Our income is dried up. Donations are slowed to the drop of ketchup from a ketchup bottle.
I do not know what else to do to keep this thing going. I have begged. I have contacted people who made promises. I have reached out to donors and we have slowed down from just getting by to urgent Danger Danger Will Robinson.
If you can help, please do, I am at a total loss of what else to do.
Donations can be made to paypal: [email protected]. USPS ARF of MS 395 West Mayes Street Jackson MS 39213 or the blue button on this post. (We will not receive the blue button money for at least 30 days.
