Signs Your Pet May Be in Pain

Pets can’t tell us when something hurts, but they often show us in subtle ways. Knowing what to look for can help you recognize pain before it becomes severe.

In dogs, signs of pain may include:
• Limping or difficulty getting up
• Reluctance to jump, climb stairs, or play
• Whining, whimpering, or unusual vocalization
• Panting when they aren’t hot or exercising
• Changes in appetite or sleep
• Becoming withdrawn, irritable, or unusually clingy
• Licking or chewing at a specific area

Cats can be even harder to read. They are experts at hiding pain, so changes in their normal behavior can be important clues.

Watch for:
• Hiding more than usual
• Decreased grooming or an unkempt coat
• Changes in appetite or litter box habits
• Reluctance to jump or climb
• Sleeping more or acting less social
• Hissing, growling, or becoming irritable when touched
• Sitting or lying in an unusual position

If your pet is acting differently, don’t assume it’s simply part of getting older. Pain can be caused by dental disease, arthritis, injuries, illness, and many other conditions.

If you notice a change in your pet’s normal behavior, give your veterinary team a call. Your pet may be telling you something hurts, even if they can’t say it.

Keeping Your Pet Healthy Starts With Prevention

Your pet may look perfectly healthy, but regular veterinary visits are one of the best ways to keep them that way!

Routine wellness exams allow us to catch problems early, keep vaccines up to date, monitor weight and dental health, and make sure your pet is protected from common parasites and preventable diseases.

A few minutes of prevention today can mean fewer problems tomorrow.

Whether you have a playful puppy, a curious kitten, or a beloved senior pet, we’re here to help them live their healthiest, happiest life!

When was your pet’s last wellness exam?

Dr. Jac the clinic cat want to remind everyone that
even cats who never go outside can be exposed to contagious diseases through vet visits, other pets, open doors, clothing, shoes, or unexpected escapes. Staying up to date on recommended vaccines is one of the simplest ways to help protect your cat from serious, preventable illnesses.

Your cat may live indoors, but their protection shouldn’t stay on the sidelines.

Talk to our team about which vaccines are recommended for your cat based on their age, lifestyle, and risk factor
