Meet Oakley!

This sweet girl was chased up a tree by other cats, and she got stuck and supposedly had been stuck for a while. Her cries were heartbreaking to hear and we couldn't just leave her up there in the elements.

Thanks to a kind samaritan with a TALL ladder, we were able to get her out of the tree and dry her off last night. She is shy, but otherwise okay ♥️

We have some announcements to make, that will hopefully help this new year run a bit smoother ♥️

HLAR is a small rescue, we only have a small handful of volunteers/fosters, and a lot of the funding comes out of our directors personal accounts.
Donations sent to the rescue are NON refundable, we use every single penny for the animals.

We also do NOT do same day adoptions. Too many things get missed when potential families are not thoroughly checked over. We WILL ask you a million questions and take a few days minimum to make sure the animal is a good fit for the home and it's not just an impulse adoption.
If you message us wanting to adopt - understand that you will not be taking an animal home that day.
Yes, this makes adoptions slower.. but we want placement to be FOREVER, and we will do everything we can to make sure the adoption is solid.

We got the call about Noggin before Christmas, but we wanted to soak in the happy news and enjoy our holiday season with the family and fosters ♥️

For those new to his story~ this sweetie was in our last group of TNR kitties for the year, he was one of twenty and he came from the Sun valley colony. The clinic noticed he had some unusual yellow tint to the inside of his ears, and he was very skinny with thin hair - so they raised a red flag about potential jaundice.

We do not release sick cats. We will either get them vet care or seek humane euthanasia so they can pass loved instead of alone outside. Noggin has been alert and eating well this entire time, so parasite treatment, the rest of his vaccine boosters, blood work/testing and an overall exam was the next step.

Noggin has ZERO signs of jaundice in his blood work!!! His tests ALL came back good- including his FELV snap test!
He is healthy overall, now we just need to keep him gaining weight, which he has gained a good bit since being with us 🥰

The Handsome Buster and Beautiful Zoë have been transferred over to Cascades Humane Society - Jackson, MI ❤️

Buster is now available on the adoption floor and Zoë will join him after she gets a dental for a cracked canine tooth.

⭐ Do you recognize me??? ⭐

I snuck into a backyard last night through a small hole in the fence, and it turns out this yard belongs to the director of an animal rescue! She sat down and offered me food and scritches, then once we clicked- she brought me inside for the night to keep me safe and warm.
I just walked right in thinking nothing of it, then BAM.. she puts me in the bathtub and lights a candle in the window?

This lady kept rambling about fast cars and freezing snow - blah blah blah.. I don't care about all that stuff. But the sleepover snack bar? Impeccable 🤌🏻

Then this morning... SHE SENDS ME TO JAIL!
She called it an animal shelter, but it looks like a jail to me and I was doing just fine with the snack bar and spa service.

⭐The party is over though and I'm ready to go back home now!!! If you're my parents, please come and pick me up at The Jackson County Animal Shelter on Spring Arbor Rd!! ⭐

💙 This is Sir Noggin 💙 a handsome tabby that came from our last batch of TNR kitties- and not only was he friendly... but he also has health concerns.

We couldn't put him back outside to suffer, we personally do not believe he would have survived this winter.
Today he got some blood work and a snap/viral test done, we will have the results in a few days!

If the results come back clear, we will be looking for a foster-to-adopt family.

If they come back not clear- we will need to map out a game plan on what we are gonna do to give him a chance at life.

Either way? This boy has absolutely captured our hearts, and he was actively suffering on the streets.
He is the biggest snuggle bug, and he is so loving.. he loves kisses on his noggin and he will give you cute bonks for more kisses and snuggs. He doesn't seem bothered by other cats, and he doesn't seem to mind small children if they move slow.

Love is 100% his language - he will do whatever you ask of him if it means he can get some kisses n scritches. Carrier and car ride? No problem! Vets office? A lil spooky, but for some smooches?- no problem! Needle pokes? As long as the awesome vet ladies give him some lovins!

Noggin has some weight to gain- thankfully he's already up a whole pound since intake!!
He LOVES wet food, do you think you could send him some from our wishlist? We are a foster and donation based rescue so every little bit helps! Thank you so much! 🫶🏻

💗 TWENTY COMMUNITY CATS 💗

We went all out for our last feral cat day of the season!! (We are a very small rescue with only a couple part-time volunteers)

Half of the kitties were from Sun Valley - a local trailer park our Director spent her teen years in.. so we are personally invested in getting control over the colony population there.

The rest were from random corners of Jackson- and now, twenty more cats CANT reproduce anymore! They have been fixed, vaccinated for rabies and distemper, given ivermectin and capstar for parasites, pain meds and looked over for health concerns.

Turning a blind eye during TNR is NOT an option, this baby was SUFFERING on the streets.. we are so thankful for everyone helping us! 💗💗💗

Yesterday morning we took on this poor guy to look after him until he's feeling better and goes to foster, then hopefully a loving home after that! He came from Healing Lotus Animal Rescue LLC and was trapped with their last batch of TNR kiddos. It was decided he couldn't go back outdoors looking like he did, so I offered to give him some TLC here. He has large open wounds behind each ear, indicative of an ear infection that is bothering him so bad he's digging himself open. I'll post a photo of that in the comments. He also has some icky eyes and so along with treating the ear infection, I'm going to make sure we do a snap test, a chip scan, and get him vaccinated before he heads back to foster. So far, he's very nervous but ate like there is no tomorrow and allows some gentle petting. I'm looking forward to getting him feeling better and hopefully turning his life around. ❤️ Thanks for your support so I can easily say yes to animals like this. This is what rescue is; networking and working together to help the lives of each animal we can.

❤️ Minnie has been ADOPTED!!! ❤️

Meet Minnie! Formerly "skinny Minnie", this girl was a transfer from Healing Lotus Animal Rescue LLC because honestly I had been casually looking for another beardie to love after losing two of my oldies over the last year and a half. My hope is that she will be able to go to events with us and join the ambassadors. Keep an eye out for her at upcoming fundraisers!
