We have a puppy graduate here! Mr. Quinn, a graduate of the Fame litter, has moved on to the next level of puppy school, which is intermediate. This summer, he has been on the go, meeting new people and continuing to be the social butterfly he was when he left here. He loves boat rides and soon hopes to become the official captain of his boat. He is cherished and loved by his owners, Kim and Dan Larkin. Here are some pictures of him.

Ax! competed in the Cudahy KC scentwork trials over the weekend. The good boy finished his Scentwork Exterior Novice (SEN) title with a second place finish which resulted in the overall Novice Level title, Scentwork Novice (SWN). I moved him up to Advanced for today’s trials, and he earned back-to-back Qs, just out of the placement ribbons in 5th place for each run. So he is officially now CH Ceben Ax FDC SCE SWN* CGC TKN ATT FTI (Xtrossel x Addha).

Stevie! Continues on a roll and I am liking what I am seeing in terms of her growth in the sport. She finished the Scentwork Buried Novice title over the weekend with two 3rd place finishes yesterday and “ta da!” a 1st place today. She is now officially Calico's Firestarter SCNE SBN* CGC TKN (James x Flirt).

Freezee! Was not entered but truly believes that I am being mean if the car has the scentwork bag loaded and she is not invited to go! She was a happy camper when able to participate as a “white dog” both days. So she was able to not only schmooze with friends but also earn some treats for good work.

I was just happy to get en route home before the torrential rains hit…the flashback to last year, using my body to hold the gates to the exterior search area shut while the deluge happened.

It’s important to make sure they are not scared of the clippers when they are puppies. Reintroducing the clippers each week and having it be a positive experience will help with their future with grooming.

Ax! The big goofy guy is starting to click in scentwork. I entered Excellent Containers knowing I might be pushing a bit. But, he has come a long way in really being focused and driven to find odor. Figured it would be diagnostic if nothing else.

Surprise! He went 3 out of 4 for the title!

So he is now CH Ceben Ax FDC SCE* SIN SBN* CGC TKN FTI (Xtrossel x Addha).
* titles are subject to AKC approval.

In the meantime, Stevie moved up to Advanced Containers and went 1 out of 2. She also tried doing more searches in one day and so went into Novice Buried for the first time also going 1 out of 2. Not bad for an "I am still a baby dog" not quite 1-year-old. All this after her "I am a wild child" morning which included paper shredding before we drove to the trial.

And Freezee got to play white dog again meaning she got to earn food & praise for searching which is a "life is good" activity for her.

Thank goodness for the building with AC at Western Waukesha. Another well run event for Medallion Rottweiler Club headed up by Karla Niessing and featuring judges Bonnie Gutzwiler and Dave Conroy. As an instructor, I always try to send new to scentwork novice exhibitors to get first experiences at "user friendly" club events and exhibiting to judges that I know will be fair and kind, especially if things go awry. This is so important to keep the sport thriving.

Kane and I had a very busy last three days. Friday he ran Fast Cat and just needs one more run for a title. Then he went to the Breed Ring and went Reserve Male.

Saturday and Sunday he went to the Medallion Rottweiler Scent Trial. Yesterday he earned his Advance Containers title and today his Buried Novice title. In the Buried he earned a 1st placement and a 2nd placement. My goal is just to qualify and extra ribbons are icing on the cake.

Java still loves Fast Cat so she went along too. Liz released her and she ran an 8.8 and a 9.06. Which is very fast for a 10 year old dog. Kane ran 9.3 and 9.6.

Dozer played the scent games too this weekend. He is at at the Excellent level and went 1 out 4 in Buried this weekend. He is normally does much better, so we need to look at what we are doing before the next trial.
