In April, we coordinated to send out a bat found by 2 puppies in Tippah county… the bat was positive for rabies. The dogs had to be quarantined and the family had to have post exposure immunizations. Last week, a similar situation happened in Benton county… 2 cats were playing with a bat, and the bat tested positive for rabies. This family is now undergoing pet quarantine and injections as well.

Rabies is a fatal condition for mammals, including pets and humans. The state requires 1 or 3 year rabies vaccines, which only a veterinarian can administer. Please make sure your pets are up to date on their rabies vaccine!! It’s an easy phone call to make, and an inexpensive injection.

Flea and tick prevention is essential to protecting the health of both pets and their owners.

Without regular treatment, pets are at risk of severe itching, scratching, hair loss, skin irritation, anemia, internal parasites, and tick-borne illnesses.

When left untreated, these pests can also pose risks to owners—leading to home infestations and flea- or tick-related diseases.

At Iuka Animal Clinic, Dr. Perkins and our dedicated team are committed to keeping your pets—and your home—healthy and safe. Let us help you today with all your pet care needs!
