We have some very sad news to share.

Newton was an integral part of our family for ~13 years and 4 months. He was the son of Cricket, our very first Windsprite. Newton (or affectionately “Mr. Newton”) was with us from the moment of his birth until we made the extremely difficult decision to euthanize him in mid September due to rapidly progressing laryngeal paralysis that resulted in him being unable to breath during each of several “crises”.

Newton had a long list of amazing accomplishments including the fathering of several children. And we take comfort in the fact that his children are bringing love and joy to their families.

Newton was a special and integral part of our family, always up for adventure (in sun, rain, or snow!) or for snuggling on the couch. And most of all, Newton was a very good friend. He is sorely missed by those who were lucky enough to know and love him.

Newton. Always by my side in life, and forever in my heart.

Remember the Rover pups (Talus x Mouse)? Three of them were able come to the show this fall in NY (Sept 12-14) ❤️

Narvi (formerly Percy, Aurai Perserverance Ascent at Moonshadow) was 1st in his 3-6 month pup dog class! We are proud of his very first blue ribbon even though he was the only one in his class (shhh 😅). Mana (Aurai Spirit of Discover) was 2nd and Suki (formerly Truth, Aurai Sojourner Sols) was 3rd in their 3-6 month pup bitch class.

Mana and Suki both tried their paw at racing (very short straight pup fun runs!) and they are going to be dogs to watch in a year or two. Wow!!

Belated “Aurai News” from the 2025 IWC NY Fall Specialty (Sept 12-14)!

I’ll just hit the highlights 🙂

Aela (Stone House Your Heart at Aurai) had two 1st place qualifiying agility runs, standard and full house, level 2 at 16”. She also placed 2nd in rally (level 1) in a group of 22 dogs.

Talus (Aurai Angel’s Landing) placed high enough in rally (5th), racing (11th in group of 34), and triathlon conformation to place 2nd in the Triathlon competition!

Honey (Fairbairn’s Magic Hour) was a star! This young gal (~2.5 years old and owned by daughter Claire) placed first in level 1 agility (both standard and full house) at 20”, was 14th in level 1 rally, 13th in a field of 34 dogs in adult competing racing - FTE, 4th in a large (13) GrCh bitch conformation class, and did well enough overall in agility, rally, conformation, and racing to place 5th in Versatility ❤️

Simon (Aurai Treasure Island, also owned by Claire) cleaned up the veteran classes in both rally and conformation, ultimately winning High in Trial Veteran Rally and also in conformation Best Veteran Longhair and Best in Show Veteran. We continue to be so proud of this boy!!

Ten weeks ago (May 25, 2025), we welcomed seven little Mars Rovers into the world. It seems like yesterday. Yet today we just sent off the last Rover to her new home in Oregon with daughter Emily and her partner Mike. Full circle as Emily is who was responsible for getting us deeply into Windsprites, back in 2008, with great great great grandma Cricket.

The Mars Rovers (Aurai Angel’s Landing “Talus” x Sugar Rush Sneaky Little Houseguest “Mouse”) turned nine weeks old yesterday. This is the last weekend they will all rove together 😞 and the last such post I will be able to do for this litter. They begin to disperse to their new homes this week with the last one leaving us next Sunday.

I hope you all enjoyed watching these littles grow into themselves as much as we have. I will post updates through their new families.

As most of you know, this is an F1 litter (racing line whippet x Windsprite). These pups are registered with the IWC and can be shown in the “smooth” classes in conformation. When they are bred to a (coated) Windsprite the resultant pups each have a 50/50 chance of being longhaired or short haired.

I don’t have all their Embark results back yet but of the five I do, their genetic COIs are record low, as expected. Three have a 6% genetic COI, one is 7%, and one is 8%. Six will be kept intact for breeding (2 males, 4 females), helping to lower the overall average genetic COI in the breed, which is now at 21%.

Several of them will be in attendance at the IWC show this fall in NY. Keep an eye out for them!! And for “gotcha” day photos!!

As with every litter, this has been an awesome journey for us. Thank you for being a part of it 💕

These wonderful Mars Rovers were born eight weeks ago yesterday. Our time with them is starting to shorten but I’m excited to watch them grow in their new homes. They begin to leave us one by one in a little over a week.

They LOVE the lure and are learning that a click = an earned yummy treat 😉. To-date they have interacted closely with ~30 different people with more to be met in the coming week. As those who have met them can attest, they also LOVE people ❤️

Fifteen years ago we welcomed our very first Windsprite litter into the world. The “Devo” x “Cricket” puppies were born July 11, 2010. This first litter, whelped at our house (co owned with Jean MacKenzie) sent us very happily down the Windsprite rabbit hole ❤️

I am beyond thrilled that two of these lovely ladies are still with us in the world, and at the same time sad that others have since crossed over the rainbow bridge. How wonderful though that Journey, Bryce, and Icy live on through their offspring, including the seven young pups in our home right now (great great grandchilden of Journey)!
