Finished my 6-day trapping excursion in the Upper Peninsula and only caught one beaver. As you can tell by my voice, I was excited to catch just what I was after at this set. Only 5-10% of beavers have black colored hides; most are brown. After talking with my taxidermist and his skinner yesterday, we decided he is going on the wall as a big rug. They're even going to use his teeth in the head mount. Looks like beaver roast is on the menu for tonight!

One more video leaving the U. P. is along 2 looking out over Lake Michigan. Cold day is building ice up in waves across the shoreline.

First time trapping in the Upper Peninsula was quite an experience. I didn’t catch what I was after, but I had fun trying. Ended up with a 42” black-coated prime beaver that will go on the wall as a memory. Already have a couple new areas lined up for trying it again next year!

If it was easy, more people would do it. Catching the elusive Pine Martin or Fisher is hard, but this was the best time to be in the UP on two tracks because I saw hardly anyone out there. Single digits, wind chill, and lake effect snow all come into play. Big thanks to The Maintenance Man in Alma and Steve Keeler in Vestaburg for keeping up on maintenance on the old Ranger.
