Many equine performance problems and chronic lamenesses are secondary to abnormal compensatory postures. Dr. Karen Gellman can help reset postural control mechanisms through normalizing your horse's structure and function-- feet, teeth, and poll. Other tools used to relieve pain and promote healing and wellness are Acupuncture, Chiropractic, Homotoxicology, and Medical Ozone. Initial consultations

take around two hours and will coordinate with your other equine care professionals: vet, dentist, farrier, massage therapist.

At long last!! Our first posture article is published! And one of Liz Reese's photographs of our experimental research was chosen to be featured on the cover of the journal, Biology Open. Here is a link to the article. You can download a pdf from the site and share among friends and students. Please share widely!!

Summary: Without stabilizing muscles, a standing horse is unstable. The bigger the spacing between fore and hind hooves, the less muscular effort needed for stabilization.

My bad-- have not posted in a dog's age! But here is an article I wrote last summer for Equine Wellness Magazine which just went up on their website:

How can horses support their own weight, let alone ours? Discover the important role that biomechanics play in the rider/horse relationship.

Thanks Ashley, Precision Hoof Care for sharing this image. It takes a lot of training to “read” a hoof capsule from the outside, but fortunately you can get a lateral radiograph if your farrier doesn’t know how. Unfortunately, if they don’t know how to read a hoof capsule, they may not know how to fix these problems 😿.

Now this is interesting. Thanks pinterest.com

"Horses have won wars for us. They carried us on their backs into cannon fire. Horses don't say 'no' lightly, so if your horse is telling you that I can say for sure there is something wrong." - Henk Offereins

Are you doing the best job of helping your horse to do his job?

Hey Friends—
I have a car maintenance issues that needs me to drive 60-80 miles tomorrow, Tuesday. So if anyone out there wants me to look at a beast 25-40 miles away, I would be happy to waive the travel fee...just can’t bring myself to drive around for hours with no destination! Call me!

This is by far the most important thing about choosing a farrier! Ignorance can be fixed, willful stupidity, maybe not. Choose a farrier who loves to learn new stuff and is thrilled to find out s/he has been doing it wrong, so that they now know better!

“The desire to get better every day is great. The drive to make that happen is even better. Good farriers work with other good farriers. They read, they study, they practice, they simply don’t isolate themselves through complacency. In fact, good farriers in North America spend several thousand dollars each year to advance their knowledge and skill. If your farrier isn’t on the road, attending clinics, conventions, and other events, you should wonder why. A friend once said that “the worst disease a farrier can suffer from is isolation.” “

Although farriers advertise their services and clients occasionally respond to those advertisements, the vast majority of farriers establish their business through referrals. It’s the way things work in the horse industry; another owner, a trainer, a veterinarian, or whoever passes along a recomme...

Finally, some excellent quantitative guidelines in feeding and exercise!
