It's dry enough to ride in arena now, but last week during the rain we had some great unmounted lessons on all sorts of topics. The kids learn so much in our rainy day lessons!

Andy, Julie, Lady Bird and Ranger have been working hard this week getting the trails cleaned back up. The trail area had turned into a wild jungle over the winter! After some ant, mosquito and tick bites, a few mesquite tree scratches drawing blood, and a chase through the forest after a white tail buck, we've got it looking pretty good!

What can we do in a lesson when the ranch is a mud pit from too much rain but the sun is out? We can learn a lot! From ground handling skills, to knot tying, to showmanship and halter practice, to despooking, to tack education, the list of learning opportunities goes on and on. My personal favorite part of ground lessons is the opportunity to pull out the old, retired lesson ponies like Cinnamon and help them feel useful again.🥰

We are firming up our summer lesson schedule now! If you don't know when your lesson time is, or you have been on our wait list and you haven't heard from one of our trainers to set a time, please contact us asap! Side note, another local lesson barn is closing permanently and we are getting swamped with phone calls and messages!

Our Story

A gorgeous Kentucky-style barn, on 115 acres - the perfect place to board your horse or take riding lessons! CHA certified riding instructor and World Champion trainer Julie Hinz teaches beginning to advanced lessons in both English (hunters), halter, and Western (show and trail) disciplines. We are very active in local horse clubs and shows. Headquarters and leaders for the Ellis County Silver Spurs 4-H Club, and leaders in the Ellis County Equine Association. We train our students to be able to trail ride, horse show, and enjoy a lifetime hobby with horses.

Boarding choices include a stall with turnout, private paddocks and group pasture. We feed twice a day which includes ample coastal hay that we grow ourselves. We have an outdoor, lighted riding arena with cushion sand footing, a round pen, a tree covered open riding area in front, and a long, tree covered trail for riding along Chambers Creek.
