Boarders and students, we are monitoring and taking precautions against the EHV-1 outbreak among horses in Texas. Attached is an official press release explaining the situation. We are requesting that no horses leave the ranch or haul in to the ranch while the horse community in Texas gets this virus under control. This virus is only contagious horse to horse. HUMANS are still allowed to come and go from the ranch. Lessons are continuing. We annually vaccinate all of our horses for this virus. Our vet inspected our herd this week as a precaution and swabbed a few of the snot noses for peace of mind. (this is also the time of year for allergies and "the cold crud.") We will give a booster vaccine to all in about a month. The Dec. 6th show we had planned on attending is canceled. You can monitor the actual numbers on the Texas Animal Health Commission website. At this time there have only been two barrel horses in Waco. But 8 roping horses at Quarter Horse World Show in Oklahoma City were discovered. We will all continue biosecurity measures at the ranch (which we always do) and monitor the situation. For now, all is well!

Let's talk Stock Show season! Flying Dollar will be taking a crew to show POA's to Fort Worth and another group to the Open Youth Show at Houston. I have Sampson and Fonzie available to show at Fort Worth and plus more at Houston. Youth do not have to own their own horse or pony for these. POA Fort Worth entries have to be postmarked by Nov 15th!!! Cost will be in $800 to $900 range plus commitment of making lessons and updating show attire if needed. Houston is much cheaper because they refund your entries if you show up (plus provide breakfast and lunch). I know it sounds expensive to my open show kids but it's an awesome experience!!

I have a current student with her own pony that is somewhat naughty and tries to lay down and roll in the sand while she rides. I have told her stories about my first pony and how he always used to try that on me too. Here is me (Julie) and Ol' Smokey circa 1975.

Our Story

A gorgeous Kentucky-style barn, on 115 acres - the perfect place to board your horse or take riding lessons! CHA certified riding instructor and World Champion trainer Julie Hinz teaches beginning to advanced lessons in both English (hunters), halter, and Western (show and trail) disciplines. We are very active in local horse clubs and shows. Headquarters and leaders for the Ellis County Silver Spurs 4-H Club, and leaders in the Ellis County Equine Association. We train our students to be able to trail ride, horse show, and enjoy a lifetime hobby with horses.

Boarding choices include a stall with turnout, private paddocks and group pasture. We feed twice a day which includes ample coastal hay that we grow ourselves. We have an outdoor, lighted riding arena with cushion sand footing, a round pen, a tree covered open riding area in front, and a long, tree covered trail for riding along Chambers Creek.
