Working Cowdog Clinic with Frankie Acosta

Frankie has been working with border collies since 2010, which is when he got his first one. Although mostly self-taught, he did have a couple of mentors when he got into trialing dogs in 2016. He didn’t start training for the public until the end of 2017. After moving from Parkfield California to Bristow Oklahoma in October of 2021, he now raises, trains, sells, and competes with his border collies while instructing clinics and lessons for a living. He is working toward owning his own herd of cattle.

Last call!!!! This is the weekend- come out and enjoy some fun!! We have added money and prizes! Entries stay open till 7am Saturday!

There has been some confusion and some questions on the equipment and roping for the El Rancho Lazado that's coming up this coming weekend. So I just want to take a moment to clarify a couple things.

○We have decided to allow three piece snaffles this year.

○If you have a shanked bit that has cheek pieces that swivel they're allowed but the cheek pieces must be hobbled. You can use whatever you want to hobble them.

○We are requiring slick horns.

○We are not checking papers or mouthing horses at the gate. So you tell us what age the horse is when you check in.

○The rope requirements are 50ft minimum length for men and 30ft minimum length for women and youth. Reatas are encouraged and bonus points are given. However, there is no loop size that's required.

○You don't have to go out and buy a set of romals for the two rein or bridle classes you can use split reins- but again they must be hobbled together.

○The focus of this event is on good stockmanship and horsemanship. Time isn't a factor unless it's to address a tie.

○We are willing to examine rules that someone doesn't agree with and we are willing to look for a compromise.

If you have questions, concerns, or complaints about rules please let us know. We want to make this a great experience for everyone and encourage everyone if you haven't competed in this style of competition to try it or at least come and watch! It's going to be a lot of fun!

Thank you,

The Roping on Faith Team

To say we are blessed with great people and friends is a vast understatement. This weekend was a total God event, it wouldn't had happened if it wasn't for Him! From getting sheep and calves found that were gentle enough to start pups on to having enough food for everyone...it was just such an amazing ordeal to see God work here.

I really can't thank Sam and Braya enough for coming out here and instructing such a great clinic. And the testimony given by Sam of how it all began is just amazing. We are beyond blessed to have gotten to meet you guys and working with you!!

To the Thomassen and Koppenhaver families....thank you from the absolute bottom of my heart for bringing the sheep and cattle for this clinic. It really wouldn't had happened if it weren't for you guys!! And to Jessica Stockett and Karen thank you for lending us your panels! And the Prairie County Extension office, Sharla was a rockstar! Putting up with my rescheduling and constantly calling her! And Aaron Martinson for coming to help me with the sound system.

To all of the participants thank you thank you THANK YOU for taking the time out of your schedules to be apart of this we wouldn't have been there if you guys hadn't wanted to learn. Your patience through it all was AMAZING, we now have a list of what to fix for next year and can't wait to get that started.

I can't leave out my husband or my daughter either on this. They've put up with my moodiness trying to get it all set up to helping me get it set up and rolling. I couldn't have better help and cheerleaders than those two.

You all are inspiring and amazing. Thank you from the absolute bottom of my heart! So without anything further here is the first batch of pictures. If you see someone you know tag them!!

Day One and Two

07/28/2021

So here at Beyond the Stockdog not only is my goal to get you all the help with your dogs and stockmanship but it's also for the ministry side and here are some of my Tuesday Thoughts from my personal page today.

Tuesday Thoughts:

So I was listening to Colin Smith's teaching on Rebellion and he made a really good parallel that I hadn't even thought of in Isaiah. So in Isiah 1 God is talking about a bruised and beaten body (Isaiah 1:2-8), they have heavy guilt and sin laid upon them, this body is alone, isolated, and vulnerable. Can you picture it? Is that body you? Is this describing someone you know? I can say that's been me and is me at times and thank God for grace and the remnant in verse 9.

So where is the parallel? Isaiah 53. This entire chapter is talking about Jesus. He is the body in the flesh that was described in chapter one. Reading both of these chapters I was tearing up thinking about the amount of pain that Jesus went through, My Jesus/Savior, he went through that for me because I was that body in chapter one until I submitted and allowed Him to become my Savior.

So Colin brought up the question and answers and I will leave you with them.

°How can there be a remnant during this time of Isaiah (even in our time now how can we have hope)?
-Because there is a God of Almighty power
-Because there is a suffering Savior (Jesus)
-Because there is a Holy Spirit, who bring the rebellious children to the Savior.

Have a blessed week you guys! Spend some time in the Word because right now that is our saving grace!!

IF GOD HAD CHOSEN COWBOYS

If God had chosen cowboys, instead of those fellers herdin’ sheep

To welcome the Baby Jesus, while the world was fast asleep,

Would the Christmas story, and the carols that we sing

Be a little different, maybe have a different ring?

When the cowboys got the message from them angels heard on high,

They’d have ridden into town, shootin’ their pistols in the sky

And thundered to the stable bathed in that star’s bright light,

I’m telllin you boys, it would not have been a silent night.

And little town of Bethlehem, you would not lie still

When the cows, spooked by the angels, stampeded over the hill.

And that bunch of rowdy cowboys had to turn ‘em all around,

And not quit lookin’ until every calf was found.

Then come back into town, and belly up to the bar,

To buy a round for them kings who’d traveled from afar.

The next morning on the mountain they’d tell outfits far and near

About the angels , and the stampede and the savior who’d come here.

“The Lord is my cowboy” would begin the most familiar psalm, and

The parable of the lost calf is the story that would calm

The sad and lonely cowboy spending Christmas on the trail.

If God had chosen cowboys to headline the Christmas tale.
