I am so exhausted by the cruelty in this world toward wildlife.
Some people look at these animals... coyotes, foxes, bobcats, vultures, wolves, snakes ... and see nothing but something to hate, something to fear, something to kill.
Not a living soul.
Not a mother trying to feed her babies.
Not an animal feeling pain and terror.
Just a target.
And what breaks me is how normalized it is.
Some people laugh while posting photos of dead coyotes like trophies. They call it “fun.” They call it “sport.” Entire lives erased for entertainment, while others cheer them on. I genuinely cannot comprehend how someone can look into the eyes of a living creature and feel pride in destroying it.
Especially coyotes.
Coyotes who are devoted parents.
Coyotes who mate for life.
Coyotes who cry out for their missing family members.
Coyotes who are endlessly persecuted simply for surviving in a world humans have destroyed and taken over piece by piece.
The hatred people have for predators has been built on generations of lies, fearmongering, and ignorance. They’ve been painted as monsters so people can feel justified in being cruel to them.
But these animals are not evil.
They are not malicious.
They are not out there plotting destruction.
They are wild beings trying desperately to survive the impossible conditions we force them into every single day.
And while so many people are out there killing them without a second thought, wildlife rehabbers across this country are doing the exact opposite. They are sacrificing their sleep, their money, their mental health, and pieces of their hearts trying to save them. Staying up all night feeding orphaned babies. Holding broken, terrified animals in their hands and fighting for their lives. Crying over the ones they lose because they cared that deeply.
Imagine dedicating your entire life to saving animals while society constantly tells you those same animals are worthless.
That pain is unbearable sometimes.
I think people forget wildlife belongs here too. This planet was never ours alone. These animals are not disposable because they inconvenience us. They are not lesser because they are wild. Their lives matter. Their fear matters. Their suffering matters.
I just wish more people understood that compassion should not stop at the species society taught us to love.
The “lesser loved” animals deserve love too.
Please choose empathy over ignorance.
Education over fear.
Coexistence over destruction.
