This week Miss Chloe has been introduced to dragging her leash, the teeter, the “place” command, the bumper & learning what fetch means. Everything is new and still a work in progress. Each day she has been introduced to one new thing and has (6) 15 minute repetitive sessions outside of her normal basic manners throughout the day.
Here is how Chloe feels so far…
Dragging the leash - the first couple days I thought that maybe a rabid raccoon was chasing after me and I had to attack it. I won every time because I’m a tough cookie 😅
Today, I saw the scary monster again, but he wasn’t a threat. I didn’t feel the need to give him a piece of my mind. Peasant knows better, I’m bigger! PROGRESS 😂
The teeter - I’m confident walking onto the teeter and about half way down. Then I jump off because why not? YOLO! I don’t quite understand the concept yet, but it’s only been a few days and I’m having fun with it! 😊
The Place Command - in the beginning I thought it was boring and want to just go go go. Sometimes I get bursts of Energizer Bunny Syndrome. Unfortunately, my trainer says I have to learn impulse control and being okay with down time. Today, I decided I would sit there for 5 minutes, but only because I figured out I get treats when I listen. Patience is apparently an important part of my job 🙄
The Bumper & Fetch - This is my FAVORITE job so far! My trainer teases me with this funny looking bird; its blue and green and tastes like fabric, not duck 😒 I still love this game because when I pick the bumper up and bring it back, I get MORE treats! 😋
We are happy with Chloe’s progress so far! She’s a fun pup to train with. Definitely different than working with a GSD but training the dog in front of you is easy when you learn them as an individual. Chloe is an outgoing, sweet pup and thus far we believe she will make a great fit for her handler. 🥰
