AKC STAR Puppy Class

Oct. 28th at 10:30 am

AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy is an exciting program designed to get dog owners and their puppies off to a good start. AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy is an excellent first in-person training class for puppies. AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy provides a good lead-in to earning the Canine Good Citizen title. Focus exercise and basic commands are introduced.

Organized training classes also provide an opportunity for your dog to socialize with other dogs. Classes aimed at earning the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy distinction, you’ll be able to get information on all of your puppy-raising questions including housetraining, chewing, and the most effective way to teach practical skills such as coming when called. AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy training is a natural lead in to the AKC® Canine Good Citizen® Program.

6 week class Test is on the 6th week. Cost: $150 Registration is on line at www.dogtrainerpamela.com

Sad news to report today. Lucy, one of our first park dogs passed away today. She adorned the front page of the Chronicle when we first opened 15 years ago. Linda and Monica are good friends to many of us and we share in their loss today.

As many of you know, we have been flooded for a couple of months now. Some clever members have suggested renaming it “Bark Central Bayou”. While the dogs love romping in the extra water, we do have to focus on our mission: to provide a SAFE place for your dogs to play. We have spotted one very small alligator on the big dog side. While it is certainly not large enough to devour a dog, its bite, should a dog go after it, could cause serious infection. We are working to get it trapped and removed, of course, but wanted you all to know.

I am installing temporary fencing across the small dog side to separate the flooded area from the dry until the water recedes. We also have the dry training yard for your use every day except Thursday mornings, as Pamela is resuming various training classes starting today. (Please see our Training page if interested in upcoming opportunities.)

Those of you who would like to put your membership on hold until the water recedes, please let me know and we’ll do so. I completely understand. If you paid in advance, we will extend your membership another month if you choose to put it on hold. Just let me know. If you are on autopay, please let us know at least one week in advance so we can suspend it.

Met the sweetest Dobie today. Dapper came for a day visit while visiting Grandma. I don't think his mom told him he's going to TLC Animal Hospital tomorrow for his "boy surgery". Hope to see a lot more of him.
