What does a person do from 1am when they can’t sleep until it’s time to go to work….. they study their breeding dogs to make the best decisions where each dog compliments one another.
I can remember my first couple litters the puppies were spinly and just smaller than what I thought. I started with a female who wasn’t registered or health tested. I produced puppies that ended up with bad hips that I still feel bad about even though they ended up in homes where they could get hip surgery.
As a breeder and a dream of mine is to not just chase a look, but to build a foundation of what I believe to be the breed standard. You can’t always pick the best looking puppy at 6 weeks because I’ve learned you have to look beyond the cuteness. I want functional and show looks. I know the exaggerated eye droop looks cute and at first WOW but thinking of the dog, you know that comes with its issues. They can suffer from constant goopy eyes ,eye lids that turn in on upper and lower, cherry eye. Those are just to name a few. I know the puppies I produce are not over the top baggy and walking hams, but as they mature they mature correctly and all of that falls into place.
You cant put two dogs together that have the same things like if both dogs are heavy and they both lack a nice head and one has a narrow front you’re just setting those future offspring to fail.
If you have a dog that has a slight underbite you question do I breed or not pairing them with another dog to complement them knowing genetic history is huge.
You dont want a nice looking dog on the outside with a slight underbite paired with a dog that also looks nice without health testing that could have bad hips and/or elbows in the line. You’d be doubling up on bad genetics in a sense.
I could go on and on with everything I studied and dwelled on for 6 hours.

I don’t know who needs to hear this- but yall are sleeping on this boy!
He continues to do amazing! He is a sweet boy- loves kids- loves the attention- hasn’t paid too much attention to my chickens/ducks-
Walks well on leash but does WAY better on a harness. He is house trained crate trained lets you wipe his face when he’s done eating/drinking. He’s fixed he’s literally the whole package! He is just Leary of strangers and he will bark at them (wagging his tail of course) but once he’s introduced to them he’s perfectly ok with them.
Has a very small re home fee. Oh he also does well with other dogs and playing was raised with a cat too.

Posting for someone who reached out- (not one of mine).
This is more of a rescue than anything else. The dog is free. He is maybe around 3. He doesn’t have a shot record and looks to have cherry eye in his right eye. Still intact- AKC.
Located in Selmer Tennessee!
