My heart has been heavy thinking of Mr. H recently. It got me curious about when the last time I stayed with him was so I found the last email in my archive and it made sense.
A year ago today, Peters’ Pet Sitting took on what was supposed to be a three week stay with Mr. H while his momma underwent treatment for cancer in New York.
She woke up and said goodbye to her “furry soulmate” and told him to be good for us. Kim didn’t make it back to Humphrey. She went home to be with God on November 30, 2020.
Kim loved Humphrey with a passion so deep that you could feel it miles away. It made my heart so happy to see them during our Facetime calls while she was away - H would get zoomies when he’d hear the ringing! Kim would light up the moment we answered!
We thought every week would be Kim’s last week in New York. We kept expecting her to tell us she was headed home. Humphrey missed his momma, she missed him, and our hearts ached for them.
In November, we realized Kim wasn’t coming home. She had asked us to help her family in finding Mr. H a new home. Honestly, I denied the need for a while; convinced she would turn a corner and be well again. It took almost a month. But when we did find an amazing family, Kim was able to let go and be with God.
I share all of this knowing that Kim would be comfortable with it. Knowing that she would want others to hear this message:
No matter how young you are, how healthy you feel, how many friends or family members have said they would do it…find someone for your fur babies should something happen to you. Speak with them seriously about the matter and ensure your babies will be taken care of and loved.
Life is short. Hug your dog(s).
