🐔 Amazing Chicken Facts 🐔
1. Egg-cellent Layers: A hen can lay approximately 300 eggs a year! The breed, age, and care of the chicken affect their egg-laying productivity.
2. Diverse Breeds: There are over 500 different breeds of chickens worldwide, each with unique characteristics and appearances.
3. Pecking Order: Chickens establish a social hierarchy known as the "pecking order." This determines access to food, nesting, and roosting spots within the flock.
4. Communication Experts: Chickens have over 30 distinct vocalizations to communicate with each other, including warnings about predators and calls to their chicks.
5. Natural Pest Control: Chickens are excellent at keeping pests like ticks, grubs, and insects under control, making them valuable additions to a homestead.
6. Dinosaur Descendants: Chickens are closely related to dinosaurs, specifically the Tyrannosaurus rex. Their feet and bone structure provide clues to this connection.
7. Dust Baths: Chickens take dust baths to keep their feathers clean and free from parasites. They fluff up their feathers and roll in the dirt—it's quite a sight!
8. No Teeth Needed: Chickens don't have teeth. They use a muscular organ called a gizzard to grind up food, with the help of small stones or grit they swallow.
9. Hen Language: Mother hens "talk" to their chicks while they are still in the egg, and the chicks can chirp back. This helps establish a bond even before they hatch.
10. Great Memory: Chickens have excellent memories and can recognize up to 100 different faces, including humans!

Homesteading with chickens can be incredibly rewarding. They provide fresh eggs, natural pest control, and plenty of entertainment with their quirky behaviors. Do you have a chicken-related project or question in mind?

I’ve really enjoyed raising quail. I love the eggs and enjoyed sharing them with everyone. With life changes I’m going to get out of the quail business I have a bunch of birds that are laying daily. If anyone is interested purchasing bird please let me know!

Good morning, wanted to share new build. I’m not a carpenter by any means but I do enjoy building things. I have learned that with each build my design improves This cage setup has automatic waters. This will save me a bunch of time.
