Here are some pictures from out trip to Nishikigoi Niigata Direct Ltd.. We took a bullet train from Tokyo to Niigata on a cloudy day. We were the only ones there for a visit and could have stayed longer had we not had to catch a bullet train back.
They have 170 mud ponds and dozens of greenhouses. They pull the koi out in October and put them in the greenhouses to let them bulk up all throughout the winter.
We were there when they were doing the breeding and returning the koi to the mud ponds. We got to visit 4 of their greenhouses and the mud ponds on the visit.
The trip to see the mud ponds was kind of harrowing. Especially from the front seat ride I had. Up the mountain on very small, single lane roads. Some curves were so sharp the driver had to back up in his very small car just to make the curve. Then it was racing along around blind curves and roads that dropped straight off without any guard rails. We cannot even imagine in October when all of the breeders are bringing truckload after truckload of koi down the mountain, how someone doesn’t get killed.
Once up top that day at their champion’s pond, the low clouds surrounded us and we could not see much beyond the ponds.
It was a wonderful trip. We learned so much and I just wanted to dive into the greenhouse tanks and swim with the koi. It would be amazing to have a large pond just filled up with these beautiful koi.

A small taste from our trip to the koi farm in Japan.

Public service announcement for everyone out there:
If you have bought any koi from nextdaykoi.com or blueridgekoi.com in the last month or so, you need to go out to their website for a very serious issue they have with KHV. Of course, the koi you go from me are not part of this issue. But I wanted to put this out there because KHV will wipe out a pond in no time at all and there is no cure.

A little video from this afternoon. You are always welcome to post pics and videos here. I love seeing all the koi.

The last 7 koi left at 10 this morning. All of the koi equipment is put away. Not a single koi leftover this year. Someone even sent me a video of some koi from us spawning with their koi. Lol Lots of happy koi in their new home. I love it!

I think we are calling it as sold out! I think we have 7 left. We are shut down for day. Only ones left are orange and black. Thanks again everyone!

As always, thanks to everyone that came this year! A lot. I mean a lot of fish left here this morning. Last few remaining are now $10 each. The babies are 5 for $10. Call or text me at 317 431 0091 for an appointment. We will probably only sell today and tomorrow.

Looks like it is going to be a beautiful morning! To help with parking, do not parallel park in front of the house. Nose in toward the fence and we can get more cars there. You can parallel park on the rest of the street. Now to start getting ready.

Is anyone else excited about tomorrow? I know we are. Could be a pretty big crowd, so please be patient and have fun! Please plan on getting here between 8:30 and 8:45 for the 9 AM number draw. If you have missed the address on the event page, it is 5226 Lester St. 46208. I will have my cell phone on me if you get lost. Only two roads lead into Rocky Ripple and you have to enter from the East side. 317-431-0091.
Cash is preferred and checks only from those we know.
I also can't emphasize enough, there are many big fish. Bring those bigger containers with lids. Koi do jump! We will have some buckets here that will hold one big fish and a few smaller ones if needed.
Mike and I are truly looking forward to seeing everyone. It's always so much fun.
See you tomorrow morning!

For everyone coming to the koi sale Saturday morning, here is a rundown of how everything will work. Rain or shine!

Koi sale will start promptly at 9 AM with a drawing of numbers. There is plenty of street parking out front. You can park in the grass. Please close the gate behind you. Not sure if our one dog will be outside or not.

Come around the house opposite of the garage end. You can come in and start looking around 15-30 minutes early. We are setup further back in the yard this year.

Make sure to bring a cooler for the koi or a bucket with a lid for the smaller koi. I would not suggest putting some of the bigger koi in a bucket unless it is a short trip. If you are travelling over 30 minutes, I suggest an aerator.

Cash only unless you have been here before and need to pay by check.

There will be a number drawing. We will go from the lowest number to the highest. Last person selects 2 koi and then we go back toward the lowest number. I think we might have a bigger crowd this year. Please only 1 number per family to be fair to everyone.
There will be a separate number drawing for the large orange koi.

According to the weather, the ground could be a little muddy. Bring appropriate shoes.

Mike and I are looking forward to seeing everyone again!
