"Look at these two young ladies!! They are just starting to show signs of long hair coming in on neck and shoulders. They are the masters of all the squirrels around our property and our chickens."

I'm often asked at what age I recommend spaying/neutering your dog. I've done a lot of research, talked to numerous professional in the vet, breeding & research communities to form my recommendation on this subject.

I highly recommend waiting until your puppy has reached adulthood, finished growing and passed through puberty before spaying/neutering them. So many things happen during puberty & growing and I feel it's unwise to mess with nature per say. I'm adding a couple of links from good sources here that explain better than I can about the effects of fixing them too early.

I know mine is not the popular opinion on this subject, nor is it the easiest to deal with a dog in the rages of puberty. But I don't believe the benefits of fixing them early outweigh the risks. Ultimately it comes down to what you and your vet are comfortable with doing with your dog.

I think I'll stick with the dogs we have. They are much more cuddly & cute.

Can anyone who has a puppy out of Brooklyn (past puppies) please tell me what they are like now? I have someone working on a project. :) Thanks!

It's with a heavy heart that I share the news that our Dixie mama passed away early Thursday morning. An overnight emergency trip to the vet and constant, good care wasn't enough to save her. I waited a few days to post simply because ever time I sat down to type it out, the tears started flowing. Yes, we are a breeder, but each and every one of our dogs is a much loved member of our family. Our hearts ache when we lose one of our sweet dogs. I know it's nature and is a part of loving animals, but it still hurts each and every time.
