While we’re bundling up in our Carhartts, our horses are quietly doing what they do best — adapting.

From nose to tail, horses have incredible natural adaptations that help them handle cold temperatures, wind, and winter weather. Their thick winter coats, efficient metabolism, and ability to generate heat from forage make them far tougher than they look.

They’re truly built for winter — even when we’re not! 💙

On December 11, 2025, the Minnesota Board of Animal Health confirmed a case of Equine Herpesvirus (EHV-1) in a Washington County horse. Horses on the property have been quarantined to help prevent disease spread. The affected horse is receiving treatment. To learn more, visit: content.govdelivery.com/accounts/MNBAH/bulletins/3ffa459

⚠ This case is unrelated to the EHV-1 outbreaks reported in Texas and Oklahoma; test results identified a different viral strain and the horse has no known exposures.
