For some, it’s about dressing as monsters and getting candy… for us, it’s about eating that candy and searching for monsters. 🤪. No really, I call this the “magic phase” … the next 2 weeks are absolutely magical and unpredictable. The 2 weeks prior to gun season in Kentucky.
-It’s a great time to take advantage of some wet weather and hunt a scrape line. Bucks almost always freshen scrapes up after a rain.
- Be vocal. Rattling and grunting can bring that shooter within range quick. But don’t over do it. -Drag an estrous wick behind you on the way to the stand. A few soft estrous bleats followed by tending grunts is also 🔥 this time of year, but use good estrous, my favorite is Code Blue however there’s a lot of quality estrous on the market.
-Also,alot of people have forgot about the “buck growl” , it works, especially with mature deer. If you’re in his house and he has competition he will commit. Touch your area up with some buck urine if you believe you’re in his core area.
-The seeking phase is my favorite. Bucks are out searching for a hot doe, most does aren’t in estrous yet, that estrous you put out could be what fills that tag.
-Remember back in september when you were frustrated that you only had does on camera? Hunt that area for the next 2 weeks.
Happy Halloween folks, happy hunting!
