You Don’t Have to Be Special, You Just Have to Be What Most People Aren’t.

We spend so much time believing success belongs to the most talented people. But more often than not, it belongs to the ones willing to do what others won’t.
Be willing to look inexperienced. Be willing to ask the question everyone else is too afraid to ask. Be willing to embarrass yourself. Be willing to be the beginner.
Too many people protect the image of being capable instead of doing the work to become capable.
Most people quit when progress is slow. Most people wait until they feel confident. Most people let fear of failure keep them on the sidelines.
Don’t.
You don’t have to be the smartest person in the room. You just have to be willing to stay in the room long enough to learn.
You don’t have to be special.
You just have to be what most people aren’t.

Imposter syndrome has a way of making you forget your own story.
It convinces you that everyone else is more qualified. That everyone else belongs more than you do. It whispers that you’re behind, that you started too late, that maybe you’re not cut out for the dream you’ve been chasing.
I’ve felt that a lot lately.
I’ll be waiting another year before applying to vet school, and I’d be lying if I said that hasn’t made those thoughts louder. But this post isn’t for anyone else. It’s a reminder to myself.
Four years ago, I wasn’t on this path.
I was two years into a business degree that I had absolutely no passion for.
Then Jug happened. My Gospel.
He sparked a curiosity that turned into a calling. I wanted to know everything I could about horses and the medicine behind them. That curiosity grew into a dream that terrified me enough to change my major to animal science at 32 years old. I had no idea how I was going to get through chemistry, physics, O-Chem, and everything else that came with it.
But I decided to try anyway.
From that moment on, I hit the ground running. I said yes to every opportunity I could find. I mucked stalls at a show barn just to be around horses and learn. I worked in an equine hospital. I shadowed veterinarians. I joined the Texas Tech Equestrian Team. I adopted wild mustangs. I built Gospel Gait Stables. I surrounded myself with people who knew more than I did because I wanted to become better, and I did all this on purpose.
Some people may never understand how one animal can completely redirect a person’s life, but I don’t need them to. I know what Jug gave me. He gave me purpose.
So…
When imposter syndrome tells you that you don’t belong, remember where you started.
Remember that you weren’t handed this life, you built it.
Remember the early mornings, the long days, the classes you thought you’d never pass, the stalls you mucked, the horses you cared for, the miles you’ve driven, and every opportunity you created because no one was going to hand it to you.
Waiting another year doesn’t erase any of that and maybe this is exactly where I’m supposed to be.
So keep showing up ♥️

Happy Father’s Day from all of us at Gospel Gait Stables. ❤️

One of the greatest blessings for me came from living in Oklahoma and Texas and meeting so many incredible family environments. Through horses, barns, rodeos, lessons, and long days spent around the people who love them, I’ve had the opportunity to witness what being a good father truly looks like.

I’ve seen fathers who work long hours and still make it to the arena. Fathers who quietly cheer from the fence line. Fathers who teach responsibility, integrity, and kindness through their actions every single day. The kind of men who may not always realize it, but whose children are watching and learning from them with every step.
To all the dads, grandpas, bonus dads, and father figures: thank you. Thank you for the sacrifices no one sees, the lessons that last a lifetime, and the love that shows up day after day, year after year.

Keep showing up. Keep pouring your love, time, and wisdom into your children. The impact you’re making reaches farther than you know, and the memories you’re creating will stay with them forever.
Today we celebrate you.

Happy Father’s Day from the horses, families, and all of us at Gospel Gait Stables. 🤍🐴✝️

The baby is home. ❤️
Strider came home a little earlier than originally planned. He learned a tremendous amount during his time in training, and I’m incredibly grateful for the time, patience, and work that was invested in him. Sometimes horses move right along, and sometimes they tell us they need a different timeline. After discussing his progress, we all agreed that the best thing for Strider right now is to come home and continue developing at his own pace.
This guy has all the talent in the world, but he also has all the feelings. ❤️ He tries so hard, and while he’s learned a lot, he’s still growing up physically, mentally, and emotionally. Right now, he needs a little more time to just be a horse and build confidence in himself.
That doesn’t mean he’ll be spending the next year standing in a pasture. We’ll continue building on everything he’s already learned while going back and strengthening his foundation from the ground up. The goal has never been to get somewhere fast. The goal is to give him every opportunity to become the horse he’s capable of being.
I truly believe good horses are built by listening to them. Right now, Strider is telling us he needs a slower approach, and that’s okay. He doesn’t need to fit a timeline. He just needs the chance to mature, learn, and keep growing into himself.
I’m excited for this next chapter with him and proud of how far he’s already come. ❤️🐴
And before anyone asks, Maxi is still in training and absolutely thriving. He’s proving that every horse is different, and that’s exactly why it’s so important to train the horse in front of you. We’re proud of both boys and excited to see where their individual journeys take them. ❤️

My advice to you is not to forget what you learned before but instead throw yourself wholeheartedly into the system in which you find yourself. Only with that total immersion can you hope to really figure out what someone is trying to teach you. And then, when you are home again, you can pick and choose what you liked about each trainer’s methods.
