Zena is back and ready for adoption.

After a 2,000 mile round trip to pick her up from previous adopter 😭 and re-evaluation here in Idaho Falls.

She is STILL a very sweet and loving 1.5/2 year old Dutch Shepherd. She now shows some hand shyness with collar grabs.
She cannot be around Cats at all.
She needs a moderately active home (or just a dog sibling she can run with)
She loves dogs of all sizes.

She will be the perfect fit for the perfect family that understands her breed & continues training with her AND no- Petsmart / Petco training is not good enough for this breed; that’s only kindergarten for them. She needs some recall training.

I know several of my clients that have been through MY training programs would be an awesome fit for her.

Meet Huey — our current Board & Train foster with a heart that’s just starting to discover the world. Raised in a shelter, Huey truly embodies what it means to be a “shelter dog.” Now, at just 2 years old, he’s stepping into a completely new life. Through our Board & Train program, we’re focusing on building his confidence, introducing him to life beyond kennel walls and concrete floors, and helping him understand what it means to just be a dog.

Huey is projected to be available for adoption in June/July, and he’s looking for a family who will continue showing him the good life — one filled with cozy couches, new adventures, and the security of finally having a place (and people) to call his own. His breed(s) are unknown at this time but I plan to get him a genetic test to help me cater his training and needs long term. He is a taller dog - taller than a German shepherd but slender build, he is not intended to look like a brick 🧱

I wanted to share an update with everyone.

After a lot of thought, I’ve decided to scale back some of our training services. This means we will be phasing out group classes and private training sessions.

Over time, my schedule has grown beyond what’s sustainable, and in order to continue showing up fully—for the dogs, for my clients, and for my family—I need to be more intentional with where my time and energy go.

Moving forward, I’ll be focusing more on our behavior based grooming salon, general boarding, immersive boarding & training programs & Rescue/ Foster dogs. This allows me to work with dogs in a more hands-on, consistent environment, where we often see the most meaningful and lasting progress.

Also, due to sudden onset fatigue, high blood pressure & dizziness at times I unfortunately have to also reel back on severe reactivity cases - this breaks my heart the absolute most but I need to stick around for my kids and family.

This shift is about doing fewer things, better.

Tailored Canine is still here, still growing—just in a way that’s more balanced and aligned long-term.

I truly appreciate the trust and support you’ve all given me over the years, and I’m grateful to continue working with so many of you in this next chapter. 🖤

More details will be coming soon.

Hello, I’m Zena.
One year old. Dutch Shepherd.
Polite pretty princess… with just enough whiskey in the teacup to keep things interesting.

I’m the kind of girl who will follow you room to room, because being near you is my favorite place to be. I adore people, get along beautifully with dogs, am gentle with kids, and greet strangers like they’re already friends. Loyal, affectionate, and quietly devoted — I don’t demand attention, I simply belong with you.

I do have a secret, though 🤫
I once tried my paw at police academy… and failed out for being too kind. No bite drive, no tough-girl act — just a soft heart wrapped in a very capable body.

I’ll be available for adoption in about four weeks, once I finish my board-and-train program. That means I won’t just arrive with good manners — I’ll arrive ready to settle in, listen, and build something steady with my person.

If you’re looking for a companion who is gentle but grounded, elegant but real — the kind of dog who chooses you every single day — I may already be waiting. 🖤🐾

“Leave it” is one of the most powerful commands you can teach your dog—when it’s taught the right way.
And if you’ve never learned it properly (or were never shown at all), don’t worry. The way I teach “leave it” works both as a beginner foundation and as a reset if the command has gotten muddy over time.

At its core, “leave it” means:
turn away, disengage, walk on, forget it.
Not “pause and stare.” Not “wait for permission.” Just… move on.

Here’s where people often accidentally break the command:

“Leave it” does NOT mean
“Stand there and stare at the thing until I eventually let you have it.”

When you tell a dog to leave something and then later say “okay, get it,” you’re teaching them that they will get it—just not yet. So instead of letting go mentally, they stay locked in, waiting for their payoff. That’s not self-control; that’s delayed gratification with fixation.

When I ask a dog to leave something, I’m telling them:
That option is gone. Don’t circle back. Don’t wait it out. Just move forward with me.

That’s what gives the command its power—and why, when taught correctly, it becomes one of the most reliable tools you can use in everyday life.

Take time to celebrate the little wins -your dog is trying. Progress is still progress no matter how small.

Today I cried for this sweet BowDee boy. He has been a foster of mine for almost 6 months. Today this boy ran up to me so excited to see me and **KISSED ME** BowDee has never let his guard down so much to give me a kiss, ever.

Once he realized what he did he stopped, froze & I could see the cogs turn…… then he came in for another and another each time so incredibly proud of himself. I cried so many tears of joy in that moment.
