Things are off to a good start! For those of you who aren't familiar with these funny looking nubs...they are dahlia tubers! I have a weakness for dahlias! I absolutely adore them. They are so gorgeous and full of spectacular details. I think you are going to love them too!
So, what in the heck is going on in these photos? Dahlia propagation...well the start of it anyway!
I am potting up dahlia tubers so I can take cuttings that I will then try to root. This allows me to multiply the plants I have which means MORE blooms to share with you! Are you familiar with dahlias? Do you have some favorite varieties?

The lisianthus from my first round of seeding are up and doing great so far! It is hard to tell from this picture, but they are smaller than the head of a pin. It's time to start a second round! I am trying to narrow down my preferences for what to start them in. In the second picture you can see soil blocks. These blocks of soil were made by the mini soil blocker. It makes twenty, 3/4" cubes of soil in an area of 3" x 4". They are often mistaken for brownies by visitors! 🤣 🙅‍♀️🍴 I decided to experiment a bit with watering by just placing them in these trays which have channels in the bottom...instead of flat trays. I will have to be very careful when watering so I don't disturb the soil too much! Looking forward to lots of lisianthus!

•A New Year•
Happy 2022 everyone!!! I have been a little MIA due to family coming down with 🦠. Definitely not pretty and definitely not fun, but we made it through! I am thrilled I can begin to start some of my seeds. First on my list is lisianthus. Lisianthus is a notoriously slow grower. It needs five to six months to produce blooms and because of this there are plenty of opportunities for your seedlings to go downhill.
💀😅😬🤦‍♀️ Most growers prefer to leave it to professional seed starters to get it to the point where they can just be transplanted outdoors and they purchase plugs. Nothing wrong with this at all!!! This is especially helpful when growing space is limited or you don't want to babysit seedlings. Well...because I am usually desperate to do anything garden related in January and I am up for the challenge I usually try to start them on my own. This is year three of starting in my basement. It wasn't perfect the first two years, but I was pretty satisfied with how many I was able to keep alive! 🤪 I hope I don't jinx it this year by making it official on social media. 🤣 Wish me luck! What are you looking forward to starting?

This is another dahlia that is challenging to capture on photo!🤪 It has unique smoky coral and watermelon coloring. I have fallen in love with the saturated color!!!
