My main hunting partner, Bone. I’ve raised Labs for 46 years and I’ve never had one with the stamina, marking ability and drive that Bone possesses. On his sires side, his pedigree goes back to my original stud, SOURDOUGHS DINGER DANDY, Dinger, my first dog in 1980. There is not one title from Dinger to Bone. Each generation male earned the right to pass on his genetics strictly thru performance in the hunting field. Those with structural deficiencies were culled. What I have today is my idea of what a highly functional Lab should look like, perform, conformation that’s pleasing to the eye and a disposition that loves and performs to please.
I owned a chocolate female, 6XGRHRCH LEITNER FARMS LAND SHARK MH 4XMNH HOF QQA “Jaws”. Jaws was the first dog in Nebraska to earn both title’s GRHRCH and MNH. Tens of thousands in training fees. She beat em all and was my second dog to play the game. Evidently I hadn’t paid enough dues as she still has not been recognized by Hunter Retriever Club as the best chocolate female to ever compete in HRC. My point being is: As a hunter to much emphasis is put on you as a buyer to purchase pups with stacked pedigrees. I’ve raised the best by crossing Jaws with FC AFC TIGER MCBUNN, NAFC FC AFC TEXAS TROUBADOUR, have a female out of FC AFC B BUMBLE. Not one of the offspring from these breedings produced a hunter comparable to Bone. When you price stacked pedigree pups you will pay more! Will you get more? I applaud those that pursue titles in HRC and AKC, especially the amateurs. Very few amateurs as a percentage will ever have a Grand Hunter Retriever Champion but getting involved with a Hunter Retriever Club will pay dividends in handling your retriever and meeting other hunters who play the game for the love of the game and not financial gain. You will be helped not shunned.
Been hunting pheasants for 60+ years mostly in Sandhill sloughs and tall switchgrass. I know what a good retriever is capable of doing. I’ve sold many pups to young hunters and throughly enjoy helping them develope their pups and training techniques on both! I sell my pups cheaper than hunt test trainers and field trialers cause I can. I don’t have training fees to recoup. More expensive does not always mean better!
Watch our website for future litters. I’d love for you to experience owning one of our puppies!
Happy Hunting to all!
