If you are going to be experiencing cold weather, please, DO NOT ASSUME your pet(s) is going to be ok outside in it! If you are cold, domesticated pets will be too! Provide them with warmth as you would for yourself!
Do not forget the feral cats too! In this photo below, you can see an easy way to make a temporary shelter for them. Please include a small amount of canned food inside the shelter, away from the entrance to it so they have calories to burn and moisture in the food.

If your pet experiences an emergency, please call the vet closest to you such as VEG Veterinary Emergency Group.

Here in Texas, we are hitting a cold snap. PLEASE, be mindful of how long your pets go outside to do their business! If it's cold for us in a jacket, imagine how cold it is for them!

Not that anyone SHOULD need a reminder, HOWEVER, here it is...DO NOT EVER take your pet with you on errands if you don't have air conditioning in your vehicle with another human in tow to sit with your pet while you run errands. How would you like to die in a massively hot oven? I guarantee your pets wouldn't either.
Leaving your vehicle in the shade, windows cracked and a bowl of water WILL NOT save your pets life let alone keep them comfortable, even if you "only went in the store for 10 minutes".

Chicks, bunnies and other pets commonly given at easter time and cute when they're little. Please remember this...they are living creatures that need a lifetime of care. Unless you're prepared to commit to the pets life, please give a stuffed toy instead.

* WHAT...For the Cold Weather Advisory, very cold wind chills as low
as 7 above expected. For the Extreme Cold Warning, dangerously
cold wind chills as low as 8 above expected.

* WHERE...Kinney, Lee, Medina, Uvalde, Val Verde, and Williamson
Counties.

* WHEN...For the Cold Weather Advisory, from midnight tonight to
noon CST Wednesday. For the Extreme Cold Warning, from midnight
Wednesday Night to noon CST Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin
is exposed to these temperatures. Wind chill values can lead to
hypothermia with prolonged exposure.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must
go outside.

Keep pets indoors as much as possible.

Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure
portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills
inside.

No matter what part of Texas you're in, please be sure to keep your pets safe during the cold weather! Hypothermia happens incredibly quickly! Be sure to get your pet to the vet if they exhibit any signs of illness or injury. Do not take your pets on errands during a freeze like this if you're going to leave them in the vehicle because it is just as dangerous as leaving them outside in freezing weather.
