The Hurst Animal Services & Adoption Center needs your help! We are looking for Dog Walking volunteers! Here is a sneakpeak of what it looks like to volunteer with us!

We are so thankful for all of our volunteers but right now we really need volunteers that are able to walk the dogs in our shelter. This not only helps our staff but it is truly vital for these dogs waiting to be adopted. Life in a shelter can feel overwhelming for some dogs. Walks give them a break from their kennel, a chance to stretch their legs, and time to take in new sights and smells. It also helps them feel more comfortable around people, which can help increase their chances of adoption.

Volunteers must be 18 years or older to volunteer with us. The first step is to apply to be a volunteer in Hurst. Visit hursttx.gov/via to learn more about the program and apply to volunteer at our shelter. Share this post with a friend!

☀️ Keeping Pets Safe in the Summer Heat
Summer sunshine can be wonderful, but for our furry friends, high temperatures can quickly turn dangerous. Pets are more vulnerable to heat stress than we are, and overheating can happen faster than many realize. Here’s how to keep them safe, happy, and cool all season long:
💧1. Hydration is Key
Always provide fresh, cool water. Consider placing multiple water bowls around your home and yard, and add ice cubes on especially hot days.
🥎2. Limit Outdoor Time
Please do not leave dogs outside unattended. Avoid walks or play during peak heat (10 a.m.–4 p.m.). Early mornings and evenings are safer and more comfortable for paws and lungs.
🐾3. Protect Those Paws
Hot pavement can burn paw pads. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their feet. Stick to grass or shaded paths.
🚗4. Never Leave Pets in Cars
Even with windows cracked, temperatures inside a car can soar to deadly levels within minutes.
⛱5. Provide Shade & Cooling Options
If your pet spends time outdoors, ensure they have access to shade and a cool resting spot. Cooling mats, damp towels, or a shallow kiddie pool can help.
🚨6. Watch for Signs of Heat Stress
Excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, or uncoordinated movements can signal heatstroke. Move your pet to a cool area immediately and contact a vet.

Summer should be a season of joy for both you and your pets. With a little extra care, you can make sure they stay safe, cool, and ready for all the sunny adventures ahead. 🐾💛

Last month felt pretty busy for us at Hurst Animal Services!
Here’s a small breakdown of our month, this is just a small list of things we were up to!
🐶A total of 147 intakes! That’s owner surrenders, wildlife and strays brought in by our Animal Service Officers and sometimes by the amazing Hurst Police Department Officers!
🚨188 service calls that ASOs responded to, from stray dogs to sick and injured critters.
🏠 27 pets reunited with their families thanks to microchips! A simple microchip can make all the difference in getting lost pets back home.
🎉An amazing 32 adoptions! That’s 32 loving cats and dogs that found their furr-ever homes!
🩷 133 volunteer hours logged! Our incredible volunteers spent time walking dogs, cuddling cats, and helping with the endless laundry and dishes that keep our shelter running smoothly.
🦝 10 injured or orphaned wildlife patients were transferred to licensed wildlife rehabilitators, giving them the specialized care they needed.

Every number tells a story, and none of this would be possible without the support of our community, volunteers, officers, adopters, and foster families. Thank you for helping us make a difference in the lives of animals every day! 🐾

🐾 Seven Times the Whiskers, Seven Times the Fun! 🐾
Guess what just tumbled into our lives? Seven tiny, toe-bean-wiggling, whisker-twitching bundles of joy! These little fluffballs arrived at the shelter with big eyes, bigger purrs, and an even bigger appetite for adventure (and snacks).

Right now, they’re busy perfecting their synchronized zoomies, practicing their “feed me” meows, and melting hearts faster than you can say meowgical. Each one has their own personality - from the fearless explorer to the professional napper - but together, they’re pure happiness in motion.
💖 They’re looking for forever homes where they can grow, play, and snuggle their way into your heart. Could one (or two… or seven 😉) be your new best friend?
📅 Come meet them at Hurst Animal Services. 900 TCC Rd. 1pm-5pm
