We get messages via email and such from time to time thanking us for the great time they had on their trail ride. This comment I especially enjoyed because it expresses the enjoyment our guests had on multiple levels. Truly, these rides we provide offer something for almost everyone.
Oh, I’ve been in contact with the Red Cliffs Audubon Society and I WILL find out what those brilliant blue birds are called!

“I loved every minute. From Mike teaching us about history of the area to all the birds, plants and flowers, and the beautiful bright blue birds that even stumped him on what kind they were. I have missed my riding so much so to feel the horse, enjoyed the gate, the smells and sounds and everything there is about riding just renewed my spirit with this much needed time. Next time it will be the much longer ride. Didn’t matter that it was just at a walk, it gives you time to look around.Thank you so much Mine and Patty!”

Cottenwood Hills Trail.
As you might imagine, most of the desert animals have adapted to be nocturnal to escape the heat and moisture loss. Consequently, when we see animals it’s mostly in the morning or evening. Today on the ride we saw this coyote snooping around for a late lunch. We had a nice couple and their two young children with us. The kids were thrilled to see it. He wasn’t paying too much attention to us. He was about 50 yards out there.

When wind, water and time have their way with the Navajo sandstone, soft sand is distributed across Southern Utah which makes finding animal tracks pretty easy.
Often we will have a wind come up at night and act like a giant Etch A Sketch and provides a clean canvas for new tracks.
The tracks shown here are of a predatory bird called the Road Runner. Most bird feet have three toes in front and one toe behind. Most of us have seen chicken tracks like that. Road Runners are zygodactyl, meaning two toes in front and two behind.
The Pueblo Indians found these birds, fascinating, and believed that their presence protected them from evil spirits. The evil spirits were afraid because they couldn’t tell which direction the birds were traveling.
We see Road Runners from time to time on our Cottonwood Hills trail ride. Invariably I will hear a “meep, meep” from one of our clients upon a sighting.

We had visitors yesterday morning while the trail horses were eating breakfast. These Gambel Quail were part of a covey of well over 50.
This is a bumper crop year for quail. We see them almost everyday on our ride in Cottonwood Hills.

We just moved to our winter location! It’s warmer down here and completely different terrain and sights here. This is a short clip of our 3hr session from this morning.

Thank you to Joi's Google review yesterday: We did a 90 minute trail ride, (2 hours, $75 a person, and 90 minutes on the horse realistically), and it was wonderful! Mike was our guide and the horses were all pretty much ready to go.

Process: arrive 10 minutes early at the trailhead. Fill out some super quick paperwork and then he’ll go over the mounting process and was good at giving instruction throughout the trail.

Experience: Our horses were Tiara and Luscon. They were great! We got on the horses and you ride single file, the horses are pretty intuitive so it’s great for someone who’s never been on a horse before. Mike teaches you the basics which is all you need to know. It was just my husband and I and Mike. With a bigger party it might be hard to hear him. The time flew by and it was really beautiful and very chill. You can ask Mike to take pictures and my husband and I also took pictures throughout while we were walking. We want to come back again and do a longer trail ride.
