Meet Rose 🌹, a sweet pup who recently faced a life-threatening emergency after ingesting something many pet parents don’t realize is dangerous: Xylitol. ☠️ ⛔

Found in sugar-free gum, peanut butter, baked goods, and even some medications, xylitol is extremely toxic to dogs. For Rose, it led to acute liver injury and serious coagulation issues—a terrifying ordeal.

Her symptoms came on fast:
☑️ Vomiting
☑️ Lethargy
☑️ Bleeding issues

🙏 Thanks to quick action and intensive care, Rose is now on the road to recovery. 📚 📚 But her story is a powerful reminder:

🚫 Always check labels—especially on sugar-free products
🧼 Keep purses, snacks, and medications out of reach
📞 Call NAVES at (256) 850-0077 or poison control immediately if you suspect ingestion

Rose didn’t just survive—she’s inspiring others to stay informed and vigilant. 💪🐶

Now, let’s spread awareness and keep our pets safe from hidden dangers. ❤️ 🐾

Finley’s Road to Recovery 🐾

Sweet Finley came to us with bite wounds that required laceration repair, including a partial rhytidectomy (a fancy term for removing damaged skin to help with healing). With the help of NSAIDs and antibiotics, Finley’s been healing like a champ!

These photos were taken during staple removal, and we’re happy to report that Finley is doing great. 💪🐶

Special thanks to Companion Animal Care DVM, Finley’s primary vet, for their continued partnership in care. We love seeing our patients bounce back strong!

🌊🐾 Splish Splash But Stay Safe! 🐶☀️

Whether it’s poolside, lakeside, or beach day, keep your pets safe around water with these quick tips:

💦 Always supervise – Not all pets are natural swimmers!
🦺 Use a pet life vest – Especially for boating or deep water.
🚫 No drinking pool or lake water – It can contain harmful chemicals or bacteria.
🌡️ Watch for signs of fatigue – Swimming is hard work!
🧼 Rinse off after – Chlorine and salt can irritate skin and paws.

Let’s make a splash safely this summer! 🐕💙

💜 🐶 Meet Kira, a sweet and very energetic pup who came to see us after two days of vomiting.

While she’s certainly not camera-shy, she’s always on the move, so getting a still photo was quite a challenge! 📸

Kira was treated with kindness and care by our extraordinary patient care team. Her treatments included the following:

💊 Famotidine (for stomach acid)
💉 Cerenia (anti-nausea)
🛡️ Sucralfate (to coat and protect her stomach)
💧 SQ fluids to keep her hydrated

She’s already bouncing back and soaking up all the love and attention she can get. 💕 We’re so glad she’s on the mend!

🔥🐾 Too Hot to Handle? Check the Pavement!

If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws!

☀️ On sunny days, pavement temps can soar past 130°F, causing painful burns in seconds.
👣 Test it first – Place the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them.
🌳 Walk early or late – Stick to cooler times of day.
🌿 Use grass or shaded paths – Softer on sensitive paws.
🧼 Check paws after walks – Look for redness, blisters, or limping.

If you suspect your pet has burned their paws, bring them to NAVES for immediate care and relief. We're open after hours and on weekends, so we're always there for you!

Let’s keep those paws happy and burn-free this summer! 🐶💙

From Roadside to Home: Puppers’ New Beginning ❤️ 🐾

On May 26th, a stray pup listed as “TBD Smith” came through our doors—anorexic, quiet, and clearly worn down by life on the streets. Despite his condition, his sweet spirit still shone through.

We scanned for a microchip but found none, not surprising given how rough things had been for him. But then came a beautiful twist: the Smith family stepped in with open hearts.

With multiple kids and two dogs (including another beagle!), they welcomed Puppers into their home and began the journey to help him heal, both physically and emotionally. 🐶❤️

Mr. Smith even promised to send us a progress photo in a few months—and we can’t wait to see how far Puppers has come!

Here’s to second chances, kind hearts, and the power of love. 🐾✨

🔥🚗 Hot Cars Kill – Even in Minutes! 🐾

Leaving your pet in a parked car, even for a few minutes, can be deadly. On a warm day, the temperature inside a car can soar to over 100°F in just 10 minutes – even with the windows cracked.

🐶 If you can’t take them with you, leave them at home.
💧 Always make sure pets have access to shade and water.
📱 If you see a pet in distress in a hot car, call local authorities immediately.

Let’s keep our furry friends safe this summer! 💙
