🛩️ Happy National Aviation Day!

NASA is the reason planes have winglets to reduce drag and fuel use thereby increasing flight range? The famed space agency has a love of flight both in space and in our own atmosphere. After all, the first "A" in NASA stands for Aeronautics.

Each August 7, our country recognizes Purple Heart recipients. One of the oldest military decorations, the Purple Heart is awarded to service members injured or killed during military service.

DYK, before award criteria were changed, two animals received multiple Purple Hearts? Army Sgt. Stubby, a dog, and Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Reckless, a horse, received two each.

Dawson is our Director of Accounting with 18+ years in the federal contracting industry under his belt and extensive finance, accounting, and contracts operations experience.

He also devotes his time as a volunteer football coach at Monrovia middle school (he played for the Crimson Tide!) and a member of the Madison City Disability Advocacy Board.

On June 19, 1865, federal troops enforcing the Emancipation Proclamation arrived in Galveston, Texas to ensure all enslaved people in the state be freed. Exactly one year later those freed in Galveston organized Jubilee Day, the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.

Juneteenth has since become a federal holiday celebrating not only freedom, but the history, culture and achievements of African Americans.

On this day in history: D-Day

81 years ago today, the Allied powers of WWII launched Operation Overlord, the largest air, land and sea invasion in history. By the end of the day Allied troops were in control of 80 square miles of the French coast.

Success came at the cost an estimated 10,000 wounded, killed, or missing and changed the tide of the war in Europe. Within a year, the Allies would declare Victory in Europe.
