Several months ago, a stray dog found her way into Station 81. She had no collar or identification, but she quickly made herself at home and captured the hearts of our firefighters and medics. Over time, she became a source of comfort and joy to our crews, almost a therapy dog in her own right.

She has a unique routine: every morning, she walks our employees to their cars as they leave for the day, then returns to the apparatus bay to wait patiently for the next person to head out. Her presence has brought a remarkable sense of warmth and companionship to the station.

Recently, our personnel had started pooling funds to install an electric fence to keep her safe and out of the roadway. Unfortunately, before this could be completed, she was struck by a vehicle and sustained injuries, including what appears to be a broken leg.

We were able to have her scanned and discovered she has a microchip registered to a previous owner in California. After contacting them, we learned that due to medical reasons they are not able to care for her any longer. We are now working through the complicated process of transferring ownership so she can officially belong to one of us.

In the meantime, we took her to a veterinarian in The Woodlands, who confirmed she has a broken leg and will likely require surgery soon. The estimated cost is around $3,000. However, we are struggling to find another veterinarian willing to provide a second opinion or treatment since we are not yet the registered owners.

Any funds raised beyond her medical needs will be donated to the Montgomery County Animal Shelter in her name.
