Owning a Great Dane brings the greatest joy—but the worst heartbreak, because their time with us is far too short. Today, Watson’s time with us came to an end.
Watson was never meant to be our dog. He was supposed to go to some unknown family along with the other puppies from Molly’s litter. But fate had other plans, and an unforeseen injury kept him in our lives. From that moment, we cherished every second of the past seven-plus years we were blessed to call him our buddy.
In May, Watson was diagnosed with bone cancer. It made our final, slow walk together over the last six months even more precious. Each step became a memory, each moment a treasure.
Kirk Herbstreit recently eulogize his late dog, Ben like this: "A dog's only flaw as a species is that they don't live long enough. But the warmth they give us—that never goes away."
And neither will Watson.
