Hi everyone! I just wanted to give a quick update that I will be having surgery this Wednesday and will be taking a few weeks to recover. During that time, all visits will still be fully covered by my trusted team members/back up sitters. 🐾🐶🐱

I will personally still be overseeing schedules, checking in on every visit, and staying fully involved behind the scenes to ensure your pets continue receiving the same level of care and attention. Please be advised that the Suffolk County Health Department has confirmed a positive case of rabies in the Melville area. The case was identified on Cranberry Court (near Costco) and involves a raccoon carcass that Animal Control submitted for testing in accordance with standard operating procedures for suspicious animal retrieval.

This represents the first confirmed rabies case within the Town. Animal Control officers will increase monitoring and screening of reported cases involving rabies vector species, particularly raccoons and feral cats.

The Town is coordinating with local animal shelters, including our own cat shelter, and rescue partners to evaluate reports of animals exhibiting signs consistent with rabies infection. Signs include disorientation, unprovoked aggression, and paralysis. Any suspected cases will be handled in accordance with public health protocols. All bite incidents involving potential rabies vector species (including raccoons, skunks, bats, foxes, and feral cats) will be thoroughly documented and reported to the Suffolk County Health Department for follow-up.

Rabies is a viral disease transmitted through saliva, typically via bites or scratches. It is almost always fatal once symptoms appear, but it is preventable through prompt medical evaluation and post-exposure prophylaxis. Residents are strongly advised to avoid contact with wild or unfamiliar animals and to ensure that pets are current on rabies vaccinations.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as needed. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
