💔 The last week has been an emotional roller coaster here at Enchanted Fairytail Yorkies.
Trinket was only carrying two babies, one in each uterine horn. When that happens, puppies can grow too large for a normal delivery. Together with the vet, we planned a C-section and started progesterone testing to time it perfectly.
In true Trinket fashion, she decided to go into labor on her own in the middle of the night. Thankfully our veterinary team was ready. They performed a successful C-section with no complications.
We welcomed two babies: a little parti boy we named Comet and a very tiny, dark merle girl we named Aurora. Once we got Trinket and the babies home, it became clear that Aurora wasn't able to nurse on her own and was growing weak.
We set her up in a warming bed, started liver water, and hand fed her every two hours around the clock, alternating between Trinket and formula. Some feedings she took well. Other times she refused.
We did everything we could, as did our vet. After three days, little Aurora just couldn't fight anymore and gained her angel wings. The official diagnosis was FTT, failure to thrive.
Sometimes there is no reason why these things happen. We know it's a risk with every litter, but that doesn't make it any easier on us or on our mamas. Whether it's one day, five days, or ten days, from their very first breath they are loved beyond measure, as was Aurora and she will always be a part of Enchanted Fairytail Yorkies.
Trinket has finally accepted that Aurora is gone and she is being a great mama focusing all of her love and attention on Comet who is doing great.
