Well, this is the only picture I managed to take this weekend 🤣 The outtakes are pretty fun, but I figured I’d choose the best one… Dempsey wasn’t super cooperative - no surprise there.

ScarlettCongedo_Eventing and Straight on Till Morning completed their final Starter run before AEC’s adding just 4 show jump penalties to their dressage score and double clear cross-country for a 4th place finish. This clinches their spot for Kentucky in August!

Sadie Barton catch rode Everlark’s Paiasolo after her regular ride sadly pulled up lame this week. After having ridden him only twice before this show, and Dempsey having not been to a horse trials in about 3 years, they came home on their dressage score for 3rd place finish!

It was a long, hot day and these girls rode SO well. They always manage to exceed my expectations every time they leave the start box, and I am more and more proud of them every time we go out 🄰

This duo are looking forward to a break from recognized competition for the heat of the summer, and will hit the ground running again in the fall!

Sadie Barton got to catch a ride on Everlark’s Paiasolo today and did a great job jumping him around, never having even met him before today!

This super gelding is still available for partial, half, or full on farm lease to the right person. PM for details or to set up a time to meet him!

The page has gained quite a few new followers recently, so I’d like to reintroduce myself!

I’m Morgan, and I am the proprietor and sole instructor/trainer for Everlark Dressage and Eventing šŸ‘‹

I started Everlark because I felt that there was a void in instruction that focused on rider influence and ability to bring out the best in their equine partners. There’s quite a lot of discussion early in our riding careers about ā€œgoing withā€ and ā€œfollowingā€ the horse, but there isn’t a whole lot of discussion about what that actually *means*. My program focuses heavily on rider biomechanics as well as the psychological components and theory that go behind the WHY and HOW of what we do in the saddle. I’ve made a point of continuing my own education in order to make sure I can clearly and concisely communicate procedure and discuss theory with all levels and ages of rider, and my school horses are all safe and well-educated in their own right.

I hold several certifications and have been a participating member of many continuing education opportunities including:
- BA English Literature (UMass)
- Centered Riding (previously level 1 certified; while I haven’t paid the dues in a while, the knowledge is still there 🤣)
- USDF Instructor/Trainer Program Training/1st Level (participating instructor)
- Ride With Your Mind participating instructor
- BA Psychology (SNHU)
- Pressure Proof Certified Instructor Strength and Conditioning
- Lifestyle and Wellness Coaching (Harvard Medical School of Executive Education)
- Pressure Proof Sport Psychology (in progress)

In addition to rider coaching, I also firmly believe in being an advocate for the horses in my program whether they are school horses or my client horses. We discuss in-depth the nutrition, mental health, and physical health of our equine partners so we can best support them in the pursuit of whatever endeavors on which we may have our sights set.

Thank you for following! I hope you enjoy the adventures my crew embarks upon as much as I do; let’s keep having some fun!

We had such a confidence-building day ā€˜s schooling day yesterday! We took a bunch of green beans and everyone left feeling more confident than they started 🄰

took her own Dustin to his first ever schooling day and he was super overwhelmed. She did a great job channeling his nerves and helping him understand all the questions we threw at him. So proud of what a great partnership they have and are continuing to develop. Look for their combined test debut later this month!

took her own Chablis PVF and had a stellar experience. This young horse has traditionally chosen violence when overwhelmed off-property (who are we kidding - and on property), but she was a pro about the atmosphere and jumped all the jumps! This was the most successful outing ponypants has ever had.

took her own Straight on Till Morning to school up a level to prep for her next horse trials and prepare a move up to Beginner Novice in July. Not only did they chew up and spit out all the Beginner Novice questions, they even tried a few Novice options and had a fun, straightforward day all around.

took out Everlark’s Paiasolo who is still trying to remember how to contain his enthusiasm now that he’s back to work and back to jumping after a couple of years of injury rehab. He did not disappoint! Dempsey stepped off the trailer and hung out while I coached the others cool as a cucumber, then made it halfway through XC schooling before he needed to take a beat 🤣 He went back up to stadium and stood patiently at the ring again until his turn in the ring, and was super rideable and adjustable to the fences. Also his first time back at the Starter height and over oxers and he was foot perfect!

I couldn’t be more proud of this crew and am so ready to see how this group progresses through the rest of the summer 🄰🄰🄰

Despite not getting to go to our scheduled show on Saturday due to the weather, it was a busy weekend regardless!

I had the absolute privilege of being invited to teach at 2 programs as a guest instructor on Friday and Sunday; HUGE thank you to Pine Hill Farm/Abbie B and Dauntless Equestrian/Danielle P for having me out. You both have such a great group of riders and it was so fun to get to know your crews!

I absolutely adore getting to share dressage and training fundamentals with all disciplines to help add tools to the toolbox for all riders. This was such a pleasure and I look forward to the next few clinic dates for these groups!

Why are so many horses being ā€œmis-soldā€?

I’m not entirely convinced they are.

You go and try a horse, in its home environment, with people it knows, in a routine it understands. You like what you feel. Maybe you go back and try it again… same place, same setup. It all feels good, and you think this is the one.

Vetting passed and you bring your new horse home...and then everything changes.

New yard. New field. New stable. New people. New routine. New smells, sounds, expectations.

You give them a day. Maybe two. Sometimes not even that.
Then you get on. New tack, different bit, new arena, people watching.

But suddenly, you’re not sitting on the same horse you tried.
They feel different. Tense. Sharp. Spooky. Not quite what you remember.

So now you’re on edge. Watching for everything. Questioning every step, every reaction, every feeling.

And this is where it starts to unravel.

Because what we often forget, or maybe underestimate, is just how big that upheaval is for them.

We’ve taken them out of everything they know, everything that felt safe and predictable, and dropped them into something completely unfamiliar… then expected them to perform exactly the same, almost immediately.

When they don’t, it’s easy to assume something’s wrong.
That the seller wasn’t honest. That the horse isn’t as advertised.

And so the horse gets labelled ''not as described''. The lucky ones are sent back, the unlucky ones are sold on, some going on to boomerang from one place to the next.

But what if the problem isn’t that the horse was mis-sold…
What if it’s that we expect instant consistency from an animal going through complete change?

Horses don’t just arrive and slot neatly into our expectations. They need time to settle, to understand, to feel safe again. They need space to adjust before they can show you who they actually are.
If we don’t give them that, we’re not seeing the horse we bought, we’re seeing a horse trying to cope, and that’s a very different thing.

Maybe the question isn’t ā€œwhy are so many horses being mis-sold?ā€
Maybe it’s… are we giving them a fair chance to be the horse we thought we were buying?

We had a productive and educational weekend at MayDay Dressage last weekend!

took Everlark’s Woodrow Wilson to his first recognized dressage show and didn’t disappoint! They stepped out for their first attempt at 1st level and came home with their first score toward their Bronze Medal 🄰

took her own From the Ashes for their first recognized dressage show and showed excellent improvement in scores from Saturday to Sunday in a lot more atmosphere than they’re used to.

I’m so proud of the riding these two did this weekend! Competition is a mental game first and foremost, and both of these riders did a great job working through nerves to have incredibly productive rides!

We’re looking forward to getting back out to jumping sticks at the Kingfisher Park Jumper Show this weekend. Stay tuned!

Unpopular opinions 🤣

If your horse gets short and tight in the transitions, you’ve skipped the basics

If you can’t put your leg on without your horse shooting forward, you’ve skipped the basics

If your horse can’t walk/trot/canter in a straight line on a loose rein, you’ve skipped the basics

If your horse won’t turn off your outside aids, you’ve skipped the basics

If your horse won’t flex and counter flex on a circle or in a straight line, you’ve skipped the basics

Not to say these things are easy. Oh no. They’re actually very difficult! But these basics are the base of the training scale, and too many horses are moved up without the rhythm, suppleness, and straightness they need to stay confident and relaxed as the questions get harder. You want sub-30 dressage scores? This is where the points are left on the floor

I had the absolute privilege of test riding a prototype saddle for TƤkt yesterday and my goodness was I impressed! I’m super picky about saddles and can always find something to critique, but on this one I had no notes!

Dempsey can get a bit luggy in the bridle as he regains strength in his hind end, and I really found that the TSJ06 helped me stay back and secure my leg when he got a bit heavy, but also really allowed him to come up and open his shoulders in a way he hasn’t since before his injury.

If you’re looking for a quality jump saddle in a really reasonable price point, I highly recommend reaching out to Janell about trying the TSJ06!

Huge thank you to of Optimal Saddle Fit and for trusting me to give feedback; I’m looking forward to seeing the final model!
