Foster Tuesday:
❤️ Meet Lady — A Sweet Girl Who Is Still Learning That The World Can Be A Good Place.
Lady is a 29-pound girl with a gentle heart, a cautious nature, and a personality that really starts to shine once she feels safe.
Lady came into foster care after being found as a street stray living underneath an abandoned house. She had never been a house dog. She didn't know what toys were. She didn't know what it meant to have a family. And a lot of the things that seem completely normal to other dogs, were brand new—and sometimes scary—to Lady.
She has come a LONG way.
Lady is housebroken, walks beautifully on a leash, knows Sit, Come and No, and absolutely loves cats. She can enjoy the company of other dogs. She currently lives with a Heeler and does well with them outside of the things she has decided belong exclusive to Lady. She has been exposed to new dogs and has shown great progress in making friends. She needs time to realize not all dogs are a threat and does best around dogs that have a calm, easy going disposition.
Lady has been having fun learning how to play with toys and dogs. In fact, this week she played with a ball for the very first time. She played with my dog Daisy, and even discovered that playing in muddy ponds and pristine swimming pools is really dern fun. Watching her experience these things for the first time is pretty special.
But Lady isn't going to be the dog who immediately runs up to every stranger and acts like they've been best friends forever. She needs time.
She is especially comfortable with women and tends to warm up to them more quickly. Men can make her nervous, but with patience, space and the opportunity to build trust at her own pace, she can absolutely come around.
Lady also has opinions about her space. She has a cute little warning bark when she thinks someone needs to know that the backyard is HER backyard. 😂She's not trying to be difficult—she's a dog who spent a lot of her life having to figure things out for herself, and she's still learning that she doesn't have to be on guard all the time.
Lady needs someone who understands that trust isn't something you can rush.
She's not looking for someone who expects her to walk into a new home on day one and immediately be the perfect dog. She needs someone willing to let her decompress, learn her quirks, respect her boundaries and celebrate the little victories along the way. Because once Lady decides you're her person, you'll get to see the side of her that makes all that patience worthwhile. She's sweet. She's funny. She's curious. She's learning to play. She's discovering that walks can be fun, ponds can be exciting, toys are actually pretty awesome, and maybe—just maybe—the world isn't such a scary place after all.
Lady may not be the dog for someone looking for an instant, carefree companion who is comfortable with absolutely everyone and everything.
But for the person who understands that some of the best dogs aren't the ones who arrive perfect—they're the ones who trust you enough to become themselves, Lady could be something really special.
She has spent enough time surviving.
Now she's learning how to live and love.
She deserves someone willing to be patient while she figures it out. ❤️🐾
