Busy weekend at the mini farm. Started a tool box with roll out drawer ( not sure how I want to do the face), put down a brick entrance way to the greenhouse, put in two water catches to collect the water off the greenhouse. One is a 200 gallon that will be a mix of kelp as well, the other ( not pictured) is a typical barrel style with straight rain water. Also all the plants survived the two straight cold nights!

So 47 lettuce, 20 something kale, 6 cucumbers, and 5 tomato plants later we are getting right to it!

Soil block / lettuce/ kale update!! Remember old school thinking and methodology says lots of plants need lots of space to start... not true! Once in the ground they need their space, starting, not so much πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ»πŸŒ±πŸ₯¬

Cheers to the misfit plants, the loaners, the seedlings that never gave up and didn’t give a crap that they did not look as great as the others. They will most likely be the strongest and most productive out of the lot 🍻😎

I see the question all the time around this time of year about leggy starts as well β€œ is it too early to put into the ground?”.

So these are kale and Chard that got leggy on me due to being the extra flat I started and not having space for light. Today I put them out into the bed with most of them not having an established true leaf yet. I have found as long as you are gentle removing them from the cells and not hurting ripping the roots they do fine ( keeping them under cover for a bit as well to protect from rain, light and wind). Plant deep, let them beef up while establishing the root system and good to go. Remember you are growing roots by taking care of soil. The reward is what is above ground.
