Play is such an important part of training, but so is teaching your dog how to switch from excitement back to listening.

Idella can run, play, and be silly with her toy, but when I say, “Bring it here,” the game pauses and she brings it straight to me. Having an off switch doesn’t take the fun away, it allows us to play safely while building engagement, impulse control, and reliability. 🐾

This sweet girl loves sitting in the chair and watching her family out in the backyard…..but she also has a habit of helping herself to anything left on the table 😂

She worked on learning that she can enjoy her favorite spot without climbing onto the table or stealing food. Look at that self-control with all those Goldfish right in front of her! 👏🐾

Some of the biggest training wins aren’t flashy.

They’re the moments no one else gets to see.

When Cedar first came to me, she loved her mom deeply, but she didn’t know how to safely interact with her. Because of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, even well-intentioned excitement could cause pain or injury.

Today, Cedar doesn’t just know how to be gentle—she knows how to help.

She picks up dropped items, helps remove socks, and even climbs onto a desk to get clipped into her leash so her mom can safely take her outside.

This week was an especially big milestone. For the first time in a long time, Cedar stayed home alone with her mom while her dad was at work… and they absolutely crushed it.

As someone who also lives with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, this one hits close to home. I know how much a dog’s companionship can mean, but I also know how life-changing it is when that companionship becomes genuine support.

This is why I do what I do. Dog training isn’t always about perfect obedience. Sometimes it’s about giving someone a little more independence, a little more confidence, and helping preserve the bond between a person and the dog they love.

Watching your dog walk into the vet with a loose body, relaxed posture, and a wagging tail is something every owner deserves to experience.

This wasn’t accomplished by forcing her to “just deal with it.” It came from building confidence, teaching her how to settle, and creating positive experiences in challenging environments.

A calm dog isn’t always a scared or shut-down dog. Sometimes they’re simply comfortable enough to observe the world around them, happily watch the vet staff, and wait for what’s next.

A huge thank you to the amazing team at Wolf Run Veterinary Clinic for always welcoming our training sessions and helping create positive experiences for Idella. Having professionals who support preventative training makes a huge difference. ❤️

Training isn’t just about obedience, it’s about giving dogs the skills to navigate everyday life with confidence. 🐾

🐾This little lady is learning how to be confident with not only the world around her but around things she thinks she will lose!

🐾When we met, she barked consistently, was hesitant to take treats, and stayed far away.

🐾 During our recent session, she has decided we can be friends including walking with me, taking treats, and even enjoying some pets!

Safety is always my top priority. ❤️

I’m certified in American Red Cross Cat & Dog First Aid & CPR and maintain my BLS (Basic Life Support) certification for humans. While I hope I never need to use either, I’m committed to being prepared to help both my two-legged and four-legged clients in an emergency.
