What a day it has been! Tonight as I reflect on this day, I am so grateful for so many things. First and foremost that Joe is safe after his car accident and that Charlie is not only safe, but HOME.
I am so very proud of everyone at The Canine Campus who jumped in and helped in every way, and holding true to our philosophy. When you become a client of ours, you become part of the family. We will ALWAYS support the dogs and the people. Today was proof of that in a bigger way than most days. When it is said that it takes a community...it really does.
The day started with a text from Beki that one of our clients was in a car accident near The Canine Campus and his dog (Charlie) had escaped. I was already in town so I just drove down to assess the situation, while driving there Karla was texting me, telling me a similar story. It turns out we both arrived on the scene of the accident. I talked to Joe who said he was worried about Charlie because he hit someone pulling out, and then the car behind him hit him. Charlie was in the back part of the SUV. So he lifted the door, and Charlie took off running straight down Lewis-Seiffert to the rail road tracks heading towards downtown Hubbard.
This wasn't our first lost dog situation, unfortunately, and we all just kicked into action. Emily was at The Canine Campus and we had her take food to the back (near the rail road tracks) and put our noisiest of dogs out in the back 2 yards in hopes that Charlie would leave to come and join his friends. Beki and Karla both worked on flyers to put up on FB, and then Emily started making copies of flyers to distribute.
Karla and I started with some local businesses. I would like to name these outstanding members of our community....and I am scared I might forget someone-if I do please forgive me. But: Pine Lakes Golf Course multiple times drove me on their carts to the back side of the golf course in search of Charlie....everyone was so concerned. They took our phone numbers, and about 12:20 this afternoon they called us to let us know that Charlie had been spotted in the golf course and as Joe ran over, Charlie was spotted I believe 3 times. The concern and care of everyone here was amazing. I took a couple of pictures of the awesome golf cart drivers!
We would like to thank Spartan Manufacturing and Streamline Landscaping...your help was invaluable.
Also, the Ohio State Patrol and Hubbard Township Ohio Police Department who were fantastic from start to finish, and concerned enough to drive around looking for a bit.
The calls to the community to come and help us locate him brought some awesome people in the community. The concern was palpable. And today I was reminded why I love this community. SOOOOO many things divide us, it feels like more than ever....but these dogs.....these members of our family...they unite us. And I think we were all reminded today how amazing the human spirit can be. One community member lived nearby and brought food in Tupperware containers to shake, and cheese and turkey. Several came to walk the railroad tracks...not the easiest place to walk. We had one guy show up on a motorcycle allowing us to cover more ground in a much faster way. And let me say, there was some thick brush back there. This was SOOO helpful.
Today the community of Hubbard came together and showed a family in need who we are. A caring, dog loving, kind people willing to help at the drop of the hat. This made today beautiful. A renewal of the spirit.
And then there was Luke, Brandon, and Sara DeCiccoecicco. These folks came to walk....and in the process they saw Charlie and the boys just walked up to him and grabbed his leash he had been dragging. They took him to their car, and called Joe and Megan who went and collected a very, very exhausted Charlie and took him home. We could all finally breath, and a little celebration was had. ONLY THEN did Joe go to be checked out from the car accident he was in. I can totally relate to Joe. I wouldn't have been able to leave my dog either. Another amazing human in the craziness of today.
There was Josh from Vantage Point Drone that came out, and did a great job. It was relief to know we had eyes from the sky with another vantage point. Thank you!
And all of the friend of The Canine Campus who shared and offered to help, the neighbors surrounding Pine Lakes Golf Course.
And then as evening was closing in, just before Charlie was found, I had people reach out asking if I wanted a trap (which was great because the one I had I loaned out and it was never returned) and live feed cameras. We had a plan moving forward, though everyone is so happy we didn't need to use that plan.
Our posts were shared many, many times. The comments on the pages were of concern. We're praying for Charlie and his family. a sense of community is important. What we all experienced today was beyond that. Hubbard never forget the power you have to love and show concern. The smallest of kindnesses blossom into a feeling that makes you want to continue to pay this forward and help every time it is needed.
Please anyone involved that has any pictures-please share your pictures...here are a few that Karla and I had!
We are Hubbard strong-
THANK YOU TO ALL!
