A letter to my first herding partner:
Thank you.
Thank you for coming on this journey with me.
Thank you for dealing with all my shortcomings, miscommunications and impossible standards when I began learning this complex world of herding.
Without you, I would not be where I am today. It’s hard knowing I have surpassed you and you may stay frozen in time, struggling to level up with me because of all the unclear information you got from me when I didn’t know any better.
But you don’t know that. You still happily help me any time I ask. You do the best you can with the information you have been given and muddle through the uncertainty and difficulties that follow along with being a first dog.
In obedience, you would be called my "Novice A dog". I am not sure that herding has a term for your first dog, but you deserve a LOT of credit and recognition. I stepped into the herding arena for YOU. I had no idea at the time, that its what I needed just as much as you.
Signed,
A slightly less novice handler, with a lot left to learn
