How Often Should My Horse Have a Dental Exam?
Did you know that horses’ teeth grow continuously throughout their lives? Without regular dental care, sharp points, uneven wear, or painful issues like ulcers and loose teeth can develop.
🔹 Young horses (2-5 years) – Frequent checks as teeth are erupting and changing
🔹 Adult horses (5-20 years) – Annual exams to maintain balance and prevent discomfort
🔹 Senior horses (20+ years) – More frequent exams as teeth wear down and may require extra care
Signs of dental problems include dropping feed, weight loss, head tossing, and resisting the bit. Regular dental care keeps your horse comfortable, improves digestion, and enhances performance!
