Well I believe I have lived to see it all. I, being an older practitioner, have been treating chronic Gastro-intestinal disorders , routinely, with antibiotics, antibiotics, antibiotics. And in most cases the diarrhea or vomiting stopped; we thought we had done our duty and cured that patient.
Unfortunately, we only threw a wet blanket on the situation - for the most part.
Interestingly, as in human medicine, there is a move or push to realign the organisms in the intestines with chronic disease. When we use oral antibiotics, of any kind, we destroy the normal population of the gut. The research shows that many diseases can be remarkably aided by restoring the normal gut population - the microbiota or microbiome.
I have a patient that developed diarrhea at a very early age; I treated him, as usual, in my old ways with antibiotics; never got any better at all. All of his tests were negative for parasites, etc. Just chronic diarrhea numerous times daily.
There's a company here in the US that sells f***l microbiota transplant (FMT).
Yes, a p**p transplant!! (In capsule form). Just a few days of this f***l transplant cured him almost instantly; he has even gained more weight than his brother.
Moral of the story, if your pet is suffering from chronic diarrhea, cat or dog, have your veterinarian look into FMT. We have to re-establish the normal organisms in our pet's guts;

So, we have decided to extend the "Dental Special" indefinitely. As I have stated many times before, I know that dental health is #1 or #2 in keeping your pet healthy. Periodontal Disease oftentimes starts at two years of age.
In addition, in these very uncertain economic times and rising costs of everything, I want to give us all a break.
The cost of the procedure includes blood work (complete blood count, serum chemistries, thyroid) and pre-operative oral x-rays. Call us at (719) 942 - 4844 for an appointment

Please be advised that the owner of the building housing Mountain Home Veterinary Clinic has once again placed the property on the market. As previously stated two years ago, the veterinary practice itself remains intact and will continue to operate, serving patients at this location. Thank you.

Hey everyone. Of course we all know about the road construction taking place on US 50 that will likely last the rest of the year. Right now there is heavy construction traffic at our intersection delaying everyone. Please try to set out a little earlier as this can double your time getting here. ‘Tis a pain for all of us

So, we’ve had the first rattlesnake bite of the season in a young pup who likely stepped on the snake. They’re out for sure.

The Rattlesnake Avoidance workshop (Laura Pintane) will be Sunday June 24th featuring Danny Upton as the trainer.

Speaking of diabetes. There is brand new medication on our shelves to treat diabetes in our feline family. Bexacat can replace the cumbersome and sometimes complicated Insulin injections with a once-daily flavored tablet that can be mixed into the kitty’s food.
Bexacat works similarly to the oral medications that type II Diabetics take by lowering blood sugar by increasing excretion of sugar in the urine. We now have an alternative to once or twice daily insulin injections. Yay!!

I sometimes come to the table later than others but we are employing the Free Libre flash glucose monitoring system for diabetics. The sensor is attached to the patient, in this case a kitty. The Libre reader is sent home with Mom and Dad to monitor how well we’re controlling the patient’s blood sugar without the hassle of time consuming blood glucose curves or “spot” blood draws. This technology, painless to implant, will measure the pet’s sugar for 14 days allowing us to adjust insulin doses.
