Another heartwarming microchip story 🥰
Winston came to the shelter yesterday evening as a stray, and when scanned, was found to be microchipped. Thankfully, the microchip had up to date contact information so our staff contacted his owner, Kimberly, right away! To our surprise, Kimberly told us that Winston had been missing since January and her family had been looking for him ever since! They were at the shelter as soon as we opened this morning, and there were lots of happy tears and barks all around as the family was reunited 🥹

Without Winston's microchip, he likely never would have made it home. Here are some microchipping best practices to ensure lost pets are reunited with their owners:
✅Microchip all pets in the household that are able to be chipped. This includes dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, and even birds!
✅Register the microchip with your contact information ASAP, and update that information if you move or change phone numbers. List an alternate contact besides yourself if possible.
✅If you find a stray pet, request a microchip scan at a nearby animal shelter or vet clinic. If microchipped, the shelter/clinic and microchip company will help you contact the pet's owner!
