This year marks six years of business! I didn’t get a chance to make my annual business anniversary post. I got this in the mail today, and I thought it was the perfect opportunity to celebrate! I’m so honored to be a neighborhood favorite business! Thank you to my customers and neighbors for voting for me and supporting my business!

Happy 5th Birthday to Houston Creatures Great and Small!

It’s hard to believe that 5 years ago I left the corporate job I had for 13 years to start my own business. 50% of small businesses don’t survive past the five year mark! This business anniversary is a landmark year not only because it’s been five years, but also because we survived a pandemic.

In five years I have cared for nearly 200 animals! Those 200 furiends range from giant 152 lb. dog, tiny puppies, hatching a butterfly for a customer’s kid, mice, cats, senior pets, rabbits, and a bird.

During the last five years I’ve also had to say goodbye to 30 furiends who have crossed the rainbow bridge. They often come to mind when I drive past their home or something we did together comes to mind. Never forgotten.

For the second year in a row I’ve had the opportunity to volunteer in two kindergarten classes at Travis Elementary during their reptile section. My ~40 year old turtle Leo and I visit for a couple of hours, and teach the kids about turtle power! Leo is named after a ninja turtle and the kids love his visits. They ask really great questions and it’s lots of fun!

In the last five years, I’ve expanded my skills caring for my senior pet friends by adding the administration of subcutaneous fluids, insulin injections, and intramuscular injections. I also have experience doing post operative care for dogs with IVDD.

We added a new family member this year! Daisy is a maltipoo and new bestie to my dog Brigid. Daisy jumped in as a full pet sitting dog from day one. She loves joining me and Brigid on pet sitting jobs and has many dog friends.

Thank you to my family, friends, and customers for helping me reach the five year mark. It hasn’t been without out struggle or sacrifice, but I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished with your support!

Temperatures will be dropping today and you must protect your pets from harsh weather. A reminder that the Safe Outdoor Dogs Act that went into effect earlier this year bans the use of chain-tethers and requires pet owners to provide outdoor pets with adequate shelter that offers protection from inclement weather.

BARC's Animal Enforcement Team will have extra enforcement officers working during the cold weather days to respond to calls and collaborate with the Harris County Animal Cruelty Task Force to make sure our four-legged friends are protected from the freezing weather. If you see a pet that is being left unattended in dangerous conditions for an extended period, please report it to Harris County Animal Cruelty Taskforce at 832-927-PAWS.

Statistics show that pets are more likely to go missing during holidays. With upcoming travels, fireworks, and parties to come this holiday season it is important to make sure your furry friends are microchipped in case they go missing!

We’re helping our community keep their pets Home for the Holidays by offering *FREE* pet microchips this Monday, December 19th, 8am -10am (while supplies last). Services will be offered on a first come, first served basis for pet owners living inside city of Houston limits. You can see if you qualify for this service by visiting https://bit.ly/3VhctQq (if you live inside the green area you qualify).

Remember: all owned Houston pets must be microchipped and registered with the City of Houston. Microchipping your dog or cat helps them find their way home if they ever become lost. Visit us Saturday morning to get your furry friend microchipped!
