I had hoped not to have to get into all the details of the long and complicated story of Seamus, the 3-year-old in Los Angeles that we were trying to find a foster home for. But since the story keeps coming up and will not die, and since it is being widely misreported, it’s time to set the record straight.

We found someone in Phoenix who was willing to travel to LA the next day and bring him back to Phoenix to be fostered. But the people who had taken him in didn’t want to wait and instead gave him to a local all-breed rescue who was able to take him the same day.

We have since learned that we were not told the complete story. Here is the truth based on what we now know:

1. Seamus was advertised for rehoming on Facebook after biting a toddler in the home. The original owners placed him directly with the new owner. Seamus was never in the possession of any Wheaten rescue group.
2. The woman who adopted him only had him for a few weeks and brought him by car to Los Angeles where her son lives.
3. The adopter said he was extremely matted and had some hot spots and that he repeatedly bit her when she tried to treat them.
4. Seamus has a lot of fear issues and can be aggressive towards children and men.
5. While in Los Angeles, Seamus escaped from the owner’s son’s yard and was found by some neighbors a few blocks away.
6. The story about the owner declining to take Seamus back was not true. The owner connected with the people who found him rather quickly. They offered to hold onto him and take him to a vet for his skin problems. The owner agreed since she did not have a vet in the LA area.
7. The people who found Seamus apparently did not want to return him to the owner. I can only assume that it is because of the condition he was in. They contacted us and told us he was a stray. I believe they turned down our foster home because they could not get there until the next day and they wanted him gone before the owner came back.

Please note that the all-breed rescue that is posting about Seamus now has not mentioned his bite history, possibly because they were not told, just as we were not.

Yesterday I was contacted by the lady who adopted Norah from us last spring. Norah, who will be 12 years old next month was one of the Nebraska 30 rescues. She’s now living in British Columbia. Her owner told me that she’s found out that another one of the Nebraska 30 rescues was living not too far from her. That initially confused me because I couldn’t remember sending any of the other dogs from that group to Canada. Then I remembered that one of the dogs we sent to California went to a Canadian lady who spends her winters in California.

Anyway, Sully (now Blaze) and Norah got together for a play date this week. I did a little research and figured out that Blaze is Norah’s nephew - sired by Master, who was also part of the Nebraska 30. Remember the one with the really horrendous teeth?

Anyway, it was nice to see this clip of Norah, Blaze, and Blaze’s adoptive sibling having fun together. It’s great to know that they have moved on to much better circumstances.

UPDATE : We he have found a foster home. Thank you to all who offered to help.

We are looking for an emergency foster or foster-to-adopt for this 3-year-old neutered male who was picked up as a stray in the Los Angeles area. His owners were found via his microchip but they declined to take him back. He is in rough shape, very matted but has been vetted and seems healthy. Appears to be housetrained.

The people who took him in off the streets will take him anywhere in California but they are supposed to leave for the Thanksgiving holidays. He needs a place to stay, even if it is just a short term arrangement until after Thanksgiving.

This is all we know at this point. If you can help, please fill out a volunteer form at wheatensinneed.org and then contact Gwen at 713-906-6048.

Bodie needs some help getting to his new home this Saturday 11/22. He needs a ride from Birmingham, AL to the West Side of ATL. His new pawrents are driving 10 hours to get him near ATL. Bodie would love for them to not have to add 4 more hours. This isn't us asking... It's Bodie. Can you help this guy out?

Attention Dog/Wheaten Owners:
One of the most common questions breeders receive from owners are regarding those strange bumps, lumps and weird growths on their dog. It is always worrisome when they appear and some of them grow very fast. Some owners panic thinking their dog has cancer. There is no need to panic but it is important to understand them and know how to treat them. A bump on your Wheaten doesn’t automatically mean cancer. While skin bumps and strange lumps on dogs should always be taken seriously, certain types of bumps are more common than you might think, and they’re often harmless. Because this is such a common problem we are turning to Dr Ed Jazic, DVM DACVD (that means board certified canine dermatologist) for a one hour presentation and then Q & A with participants on November 18, 2025 at 4:00 pacific time. This webinar is free to you and graciously paid for by SCWTCA Health Endowment Inc. donors. You can send questions and photos in advance to [email protected]....  We encourage participants to attend the live presentation as this is your opportunity to ask questions and receive answers from Dr. Jazic. The webinar will be recorded for future viewing.
Best of all your dog doesn’t have to be a Wheaten to attend. We love all dogs and want them well. So feel free to share this post.
Dr. Jazic presented a webinar on Dermatology that was wildly popular and has been viewed many times. To date we have had 27, 519 views on our Webinars in four years. We hope to see you there.
Anna Marzolino is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

Two days after undergoing heart surgery at the University of Georgia for patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), little Wally is out of the hospital and back in his foster home. All the early signs show that the surgery was successful. The surgeons decided not to do the second procedure to correct his pulmonary valve stenosis at this time. That condition seems to have improved, so a second procedure may or may not be necessary in the future. Now the challenge will be to keep him quiet while he recovers.

Wally’s hospital bill came to $9,038.34. Many of you have already contributed towards the cost and we thank you for your generosity. If anyone else would like to make a donation, it can be done through Venmo or Zelle, or by sending a check to:
