🐝 Bee, Wasp & Hornet Stings: A Hidden Danger for Flat‑Faced Breeds
(Boston Terriers, Frenchies, Pugs, Bulldogs, etc.)

These breeds already struggle with narrowed airways and a sting can cause swelling that turns life‑threatening fast. Hornet stings especially may trigger sudden collapse, severe swelling, or breathing distress.

🚨 Watch for signs: facial swelling, noisy breathing, pale gums, vomiting, collapse, or sudden panic. If you see these, seek emergency vet care immediately.

❤️ We recently heard from a Boston owner who lost her beloved dog to a hornet sting. Her courage in sharing this painful loss reminds us why awareness matters. These dogs are small, brave, curious and vulnerable.

🐾 Please share to help protect brachycephalic dogs everywhere Raising awareness can save lives.

Rescue Isn’t Always Sunshine and Happy Tails ❤️

This past week has been especially hard for us. We lost Dave, Mocha, and Tyson. In each case, there was nothing that could have been prevented. Their time had simply come, and their little bodies were tired.

That doesn’t make saying goodbye any easier.

When things like this happen, it takes the wind out of us. We grieve alongside their foster families, because these dogs become family. We love them, care for them, worry about them, celebrate their victories and when it’s time to let them go, we hurt too.

So we ask for a little grace if you haven’t seen us as active online lately. ❤️

There is SO much that happens behind the scenes in rescue that most people never see. Even while we are grieving, the work doesn’t stop. There are vet appointments to coordinate, foster homes to check on, new foster homes to find, transportation to arrange, dogs waiting for placement, medications to monitor, and countless decisions that have to be made every single day.

We still have to press on because there are dogs who still need us.

And we want you to know how much we appreciate every donation, every wishlist item, every share, every message, and every bit of encouragement you send our way. Those things truly help the dogs but they also help us.

When rescue is hard, seeing the love and support from our community reminds us why we keep going.

Rescue is truly hard for all of us. Some days are harder than others.

But we keep showing up.

For Dave.
For Mocha.
For Tyson.
And for every dog still waiting for someone to say, “We’ve got you.” ❤️🐾

Thank you for giving us grace, for supporting our rescue, and for understanding that sometimes the people behind the rescue need a moment to grieve, too.

We may be a little quieter right now, but we are still here. And we are still fighting for the dogs who need us.

Tyson’s Story 🌈🐾

My foster mom, Annette, said I was declining. I was definitely having a harder time pulling my backend up so I could do my crazy crab walk.

She let me go stay for a week with the couple who rescued me from the shelter after my dear, sweet daddy, Chris, passed away at home. I was so scared at first… until I saw them.

I knew them!Edgar had worked with my daddy!

They could see the changes in me, too. But these last four months have been really nice. I have felt so much love, especially with all the supplies and support you wonderful people sent to me. ❤️

But I was ready.

I was ready to go find my daddy.

Today, my foster mom and the couple who loved me so deeply helped me cross the Rainbow Bridge, along with the amazing staff at Bay City Vet.

And now…

I can run again.

I can run like I was born to do.

And the very best part?

I ran straight into Chris’s arms again. ❤️

It was sooooo nice!

He was so happy to see me, and I was absolutely thrilled to see him, too.

I know he was waiting for me.

Thank you to South Texas Boston Terrier Rescue and to every single one of its supporters who helped make my final months so full of love. I am so grateful that my last days weren’t spent in that noisy, scary shelter.

The beautiful prayer blanket that Barb sent me will go to my friends—the couple who came to the shelter after me and opened their hearts and home to me—along with my ashes.

Thank you all for giving me such beautiful final months.

Please send lots of love and prayers to my foster mom, Annette, and to my daddy’s friends Edgar who rescued me from that scary shelter and loved me so deeply.

I was loved.

I was safe.

And now I’m home.

Run free, sweet Tyson. Your daddy was waiting for you. 🌈🐾❤️

It’s taken me a long time to write this post. Some things are just too raw.

This poor guy saw a vet last Friday morning. Only about a pound and believed to be about 30 days old, everything looked good. Until it didn’t.

That evening around 6:30, the puppy became pretty despondent and was agonal breathing. Our foster mom, Carrie, called and sent a video for our input. We immediately sent her and the pup to the closest ER vet. Upon arrival, they took him straight back for triage.

When the vet came in and talked to us (I was hearing and interacting via speaker phone), the news was not good. The pup was seizing and actively dying. He was on oxygen and alive, but was not going to survive the night.

Carrie was there in tears and I’m on the phone listening to the vet and trying to make a judgment call knowing I wasn’t the one sitting there watching this unfold in front of my eyes. We had to let him go. And I had to hang up the phone, knowing my sweet Carrie had to drive home without that puppy she’d been nursing back to health with everything she had in her.

Sometimes what we do is never enough. Sometimes it’s too late. Sometimes it’s just because the circumstances prior to us getting the dog were certainly not ideal. And we simply can’t overcome those obstacles.

But one thing is for sure with STBTR. We aren’t giving up without fighting the fight with our dogs.

There have been too many lately. We had a string of very old, medically fragile cases. And we try not to back away from those. But it’s hard on our hearts.

We want you all to know how much we appreciate you jumping in with supplies and prayers every time we have a need.

But tonight I ask you to remember this foster mom who poured into this pup.

Rest in peace, Dave. We will continue fighting to keep your brother here with us and healthy.
