Chip Your Pet Month
In honor of Chip your Pet Month we encourage all pet owners to get their pet microchipped! A study performed by the Human Animal Support Services found that pets with a microchip are more than THREE times as likely to be reunited with their owners. If your pet has a microchip be sure your contact information is up to date to ensure no delay in reuniting you with your furry friend.

April is Heartworm Awareness Month! Do you know how heartworms are transmitted?
Texas is in the top 10 for heartworm disease in the nation.

• What is Heartworm Disease?
Heartworm disease is a serious condition in dogs, cats, and other animals caused by parasitic worms that live in the heart, lungs, and associated blood vessels.
• Transmission:
Heartworms are transmitted to pets through the bite of an infected mosquito.
• Prevention is Key:
The best way to protect your pet from heartworm disease is through monthly preventative medications, which are available in oral or topical forms.
• Symptoms:
Symptoms of heartworm disease can include coughing, difficulty breathing, fatigue, decreased appetite, and weight loss.
• Testing:
It's important to get your pet tested for heartworm annually, even if they are on preventative medication, to ensure the medication is effective.

Let’s keep our pets healthy and heartworm-free! Give us a call today at 281-481-5900 to talk about your options — because protecting those we love is always worth it. 🐶🐱❤️🐾

Signs of fleas in your cat include excessive scratching, licking, or grooming, hair loss, visible fleas or ticks, flea dirt (tiny black specks), red or irritated skin, and scabs.
Here's a more detailed look at the signs:

• Visible fleas: Look for small, brownish-black, flat-bodied insects with six legs, especially around the base of the tail, under the armpits, and in the groin region.
• Flea dirt: These are tiny, black specks that look like pepper or small grains of sand, which are actually flea droppings (digested blood).
• Excessive scratching, licking, or biting: Cats may groom excessively or bite at their skin due to the irritation caused by flea bites.
• Hair loss: Over-grooming or scratching can lead to bald patches or patchy fur loss.
• Red or irritated skin: Flea bites can cause redness, inflammation, and even scabs or sores.
• Flea eggs: Tiny, white grains that look like grains of sand
• Tapeworms: Fleas can transmit tapeworms, which can cause digestive issues.
• Anemia: In severe cases, a heavy flea infestation can lead to anemia, causing lethargy and pale gums.
• Behavioral changes: Cats may become more restless or agitated due to the discomfort of fleas.
